"Triumph in Tribulation" gives an alternative view to the popular Pre-Tribulation rapture theory prevalent in some Christian circles, particularly in the western world. Written by an American who has lived in the Islamic world for nearly four decades, John Patrick questions why Americans and Christians in the West should be exempt from the persecution their Christian brothers and sisters face in many parts of the world. Scriptures are presented from all across the Bible showing how God's people have always suffered persecution. He proposes that the coming Great Tribulation will be no different, with hard evidence from the Scripture supporting this view. Don't be "left behind" in spirit and unprepared for what is ahead for believers of all faiths when the world plunges into the "Great Tribulation." (Matthew Chapter 24, verse 21)This book came about during a visit to Africa. Many churches requested teaching on this subject, as there were so many confusing theories flying around. This resulted in some church members making unwise decisions, financial and otherwise, based on the idea that Jesus could return at any minute. Thus came the idea for this publication, a collection of Bible verses on the subject from both the Old and New Testaments. "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ." (First Peter Chapter 1, verse 7)

Who are the 24 elders in the book of Revelation? What is the church's destiny as set forth in Revelation? Is the Lord Jesus ever set forth as an angel? Who are the 144,000 set forth as the preachers in the tribulation period? Which beast is the Antichrist? Is Babylon a literal Babylon or as many say a pseudonym for Rome? Is the magnificent city of chapter 21 a literal city or a figure for the church? Many believers in the Lord Jesus search the Scriptures as they take an interest in the great truth of His return. The book of Revelation is very prominent in this regard being God's last word to His children on this theme. There are no doubt many differing thoughts as to the interpretation of the themes set forth, but God has written for every believer to understand His mind regarding this world and the judgment it will know, as well as the glories that will be enjoyed by the Lord Jesus in the day of His manifestation. The purpose of this commentary is to help the saints understand the mind of God, while increasing our knowledge of coming events. These things are written to draw out our affections to Christ and to glorify the Lord who will soon appear and unite us to Himself for ever.

'Experience is said to be the name men give to their mistakes and of the experience I gained in Spitsbergen that may well be true.' The circumnavigation of Spitsbergen is the first of three voyages described in H.W. 'Bill' Tilman's fifteenth and final book, a remarkable example of Tilman's ability to triumph when supported by a crew game for all challenges. The 1974 voyage of the pilot cutter Baroque takes Tilman to his furthest north—the highest latitude of any of his travels in the northern or southern hemisphere. The account of this achievement makes compelling reading, the crew pulling together to avert potential disaster from a navigational misjudgement. A younger, less experienced crew join Tilman in 1975, this time heading north along Greenland's west coast until a break in the boom necessitates the abandonment of the objective and an early return. 'That one can never be quite confident of reaching any of the places I aim at may be part of their charm, and failure is at least an excuse for making another voyage.' The following year proves to be Tilman's last voyage in his own boat, his account beginning with a dry nod to his artillery background: 'As I begin to describe this voyage, the discrepancy between the target and the fall of shot provokes a wry smile.' Tilman never expected crews to pay, covering all the costs of his voyages personally. He therefore held the quite reasonable view that his crew would pull their weight, show loyalty to the ship and take the rough with the smooth. Sadly, the crew in 1976 fell far short of that expectation, forcing several changes of plan and eventually obliging Tilman to leave Baroque in Iceland. Not for the first time in Tilman's remarkable 140,000 miles of voyaging is he moved to quote Conrad: 'Ships are all right, it's the men in them.' Tilman set a high standard and led by example; where his companions rose to the challenge, as they did in the majority of his expeditions, the results were often remarkable. Triumph and Tribulation closes this newly extended edition of his literary legacy, a fine testament to a remarkable life.
