O livro Trilhas Geográficas múltiplas possibilidades para o ensino de Geografia traz uma contribuição da Geografia escolar para uma leitura de mundo ancorada na reflexão e na crítica da prática docente. O livro Educação geográfica do agir comunicativo: Geografia escolar do mundo da vida problematiza o uso da linguagem mediante sua função comunicativa voltada ao entendimento, lançando luzes para a sua ausência na escola, bem como no ensino e na aprendizagem de Geografia. A obra parte da constatação de que a tradição crítica da Geografia no Brasil havia posto a interpretação do mundo pelo sistema econômico e político em primeiro plano no saber geográfico. Ela fizera isso a partir de categorias da economia política que se tornaram questionáveis (como dados explicativos por si sós da realidade), muito antes da sua eclosão no interior do próprio pensamento crítico geográfico no final da década de 1970. A categoria interação social já havia sido posta por Jürgen Habermas na década de 1960 e, em 1970, uma virada linguística na Filosofia e nas Ciências Sociais já estava posta. O autor destaca, por sua vez, que o mundo da vida já havia sido colocado pelas ciências do espírito como o fundamento esquecido do saber científico e do qual o saber geográfico tem se valido apenas recentemente, com ganhos reconhecíveis para o nosso campo disciplinar. Ao modo da reconstrução habermasiana, propõe-se que nos direcionemos para além do mercado e do Estado, mas sem a desconsideração do mundo do sistema, de modo a ampliar a descrição, a explicação e a compreensão da dimensão espacial da sociedade mediante o mundo da vida, compartilhado intersubjetivamente como conceito complementar ao de agir comunicativo. Em sua leitura, depreende-se o desenvolvimento de um discurso em torno dos fundamentos sociais (a sociedade), fundamentos espaçotemporais (o espaço e seus horizontes) e fundamentos políticos (o espaço público comunicativo e a democracia deliberativa). Ao tempo que se faz um convite à discussão das bases pedagógicas para uma educação geográfica do agir comunicativo, a obra encaminha para o entendimento da consideração da Geografia escolar com e pelo mundo da vida para a emancipação.

Every year, the World Bank’s World Development Report (WDR) features a topic of central importance to global development. The 2018 WDR—LEARNING to Realize Education’s Promise—is the first ever devoted entirely to education. And the time is right: education has long been critical to human welfare, but it is even more so in a time of rapid economic and social change. The best way to equip children and youth for the future is to make their learning the center of all efforts to promote education. The 2018 WDR explores four main themes: First, education’s promise: education is a powerful instrument for eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity, but fulfilling its potential requires better policies—both within and outside the education system. Second, the need to shine a light on learning: despite gains in access to education, recent learning assessments reveal that many young people around the world, especially those who are poor or marginalized, are leaving school unequipped with even the foundational skills they need for life. At the same time, internationally comparable learning assessments show that skills in many middle-income countries lag far behind what those countries aspire to. And too often these shortcomings are hidden—so as a first step to tackling this learning crisis, it is essential to shine a light on it by assessing student learning better. Third, how to make schools work for all learners: research on areas such as brain science, pedagogical innovations, and school management has identified interventions that promote learning by ensuring that learners are prepared, teachers are both skilled and motivated, and other inputs support the teacher-learner relationship. Fourth, how to make systems work for learning: achieving learning throughout an education system requires more than just scaling up effective interventions.
