Are Communion and Otherness contradictory or can they be reconciled? In his book, Jesmond Micallef refers to John Zizioulas’s celebrated book, Being as Communion to try to answer this question underlining the importance of communion for life and for uni- ty. He explains that Communion and Otherness are not contradictory but complemen-tary because Communion is the basis for true Otherness and identity. The author traces the work of Zizioulas who probes the Christian tradition and high-lights the existential concerns that already underlay the writings of the Greek Fathers and the definitions of the early ecumenical councils.

Written in 1975 as a birthday greeting to the theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar, Klaus Hemmerle's Theses Towards A Trinitarian Ontology is of the highest theological moment as a key source text for the recent widespread interest in the idea of a "Trinitarian ontology." Drawing on Hemmerle's deep familiarity with German Idealism, the Theses sketch an ontology beginning not from invariance, but from "self-giving," from kenosis, and articulate a distinctively Trinitarian response to the aporias of early twenty-first-century thought-a response for which only Love can credibly be understood as the meaning of Being.

Can Christian theology overcome its long-standing supersessionism without diluting its Trinitarian faith? Can Christian faith remain genuinely Christian when it fails to recognize the covenantal significance of the Jews? In his later career, leading Trinitarian theologian Robert Jenson's theology moves in a post-supersessionistic direction. That said, the conceptual nexus between his Trinitarian theology and his post-supersessionism is not always patent on the surface of his texts. In this book, Lee traces the post-supersessionistic development of Jenson's Trinitarian theology and uncovers the reasons why Jenson's Trinitarian theology sets out to embrace the existence of the Jews. This book seeks to show that Jenson's revisionary--historicized, "carnalized," hermeneutical, and eschatological--Trinitarian ontology allows for genuine confession of the eternal triune God as the God of Israel, and that it thereby lays a firm basis for a properly Christian post-supersessionism.

The Father S Eternal Freedom written by Dario Chiapetti and has been published by James Clarke & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-30 with Religion categories.

John Zizioulas is renowned for his controversial reflection on the ontological freedom as the cause and cipher of God's being, which also has important implications for anthropology, ecclesiology and ecumenical dialogue. This view is bound up with a personalist conception of the Trinity, recognised in the teaching of the Greek Church Fathers, in which the person represents the primary ontological category. In particular, Zizioulas shows how, by virtue of the Father, personhood coincides with absolute freedom. In The Father's Eternal Freedom, Dario Chiapetti explores this ontology. Taking into account Zizioulas' epistemological principles, his patristic reading and his theological development, the author systematically presents Zizioulas' thesis, verifying its conformity to dogma and its internal coherence. Chiapetti analyses how Zizioulas' proposal brings back to the centre of systematic theology the teaching of the Greek Fathers, especially the Cappadocians, and the apophatic horizon of dogmatic reflection. Such reflection pushes the discourse on God to its maximum degree, identifying and bringing out, rather than resolving or attenuating, the aporetic terms that structure it.

The Named God And The Question Of Being written by Stanley James Grenz and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Dieu - Nom categories.

In this book, Stanley Grenz examines the long-standing trajectory of thought that has equated the concept of "being" with the God of the Bible--and thus claimed that the ontological category of being is the guiding concept by which God should be understood. Grenz extends the engagement between Christian theology and the Western philosophical tradition and focuses the discussion on the importance of naming, particularly given that the Christian God is both named and triune. In doing so, he organizes the book into three parts, forming an overarching story of the interplay between the named character of God and the question of being. First he analyzes the history of the philosophical concept of Being, then he shifts the focus to an exegesis of the "I Am" texts, and finally he moves to a renewed conversation between theology and ontological philosophy by means of the divine name.

This study examines how Pannenberg uses idealist thought, looking at its implications for orthodox Christian doctrines. It seeks to shed light on how idealism controls Pannenberg's system, and shows that Barth's theology also reflects Hegelian logic, each offering a trinitarian ontology.

Persons In Relation written by Najib George Awad and has been published by Fortress Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-01 with Religion categories.

Tracing out the origins of the Trinitarian “revival” in the modern era, particularly on account of the influence of Schleiermacher, Tillich, Barth, Rahner, and Pannenberg, through to the destabilizing effects of postmodernity on Trinitarian discourse, the author provides a critical hermeneutic for the evaluation and implementation of thoughtful Trinitarian theology in the contemporary world. Within this frame, the author argues for viewing the Trinity as the intellectual and conceptual context and interdisciplinary arena of interaction between theology and other forms of intellectual inquiries to generate a robust, multifaceted, and historically fluent doctrine of the Trinity.

In this important book, Chung-Hyun Baik explores one of the central issues in contemporary Trinitarian theology: the relationship between the economic and immanent Trinity. Engaging a wide variety of Trinitarian theologians and contemporary philosophers, Baik offers a vital analysis of the ontological and epistemological issues that bear on a proper understanding of the doctrine of the Trinity. Noting that the meaning of mystery in the New Testament is Jesus Christ himself, Baik argues that, in order to rightly approach the question of the relationship between the immanent and the economic Trinity, it is necessary to understand the mystery of the divine being as centered in Christ himself. Moreover, Christ is not merely a device for resolving epistemological or ontological tensions, but rather the fullness of the divine mystery, and as such, must be determinative of all such theological and philosophical questions.
