Nacido en Madrid en 1940, José Guillermo es licenciado en Derecho por la Universidad Complutense y rector del Real Colegio de España en Bolonia (Italia) desde 1978. Se le debe el hallazgo del manuscrito del Cántico espiritual de San Juan de la Cruz fechado en 1593.También se le debe la recuperación de la gran ópera española Celos, aun del aire matan de Calderón de la Barca con música de Juan Hidalgo. En 2000 publicó La adulteración de ‘La Celestina’, extenso ensayo que trata de recuperar la Comedia de Calisto y Melibea original suprimiendo sus interpolaciones posteriores. Es autor, además, de numerosos artículos sobre temas históricos, filosóficos, estéticos y literarios que se reúnen en este volumen. En el terreno de la creación literaria, destacan España blanca (1974), la novela El huésped del Rector (1985), que obtuvo el premio de novela corta Café Iruña, y Trivio de espejos (1991). Es caballero de honor y devoción de la S.O.M. de Malta y Grande Ufficiale de la República Italiana, y posee la Gran Cruz de Isabel la Católica.

Los otros dos volúmenes son: La memoria, la inventora y Memoria del uno y memoria del otro.
