Tryin´ Hard to Mellow Out treats serious subjects lightly. If follows from Arnold´s notion that people can do serious work exceptionally well best in an atmosphere of fun. Creativity and humor provide that atmosphere. Writers know that sex and violence are the elements of a good story. Arnold´s Tryin´ Hard uses both to communicate—along with satire. His section on Change, Governance, and Perspective is filled with both as you might expect when politicians are key elements. His section on Help for Leaders and Followers is filled with both when political leaders and news media are featured. It´s a Strange World Today is filled with both as the unusual connections between us all are observed. Looking to the Future shows the expectation and hope that both sex and violence will continue to be with us in the future. Arnold has other fun treatments of serious subjects. The Fallback Position "for Managers and Others Who May Be Fired at a Moment´s Notice by an Employer with the Potential to be Completely Unfair, Unreasonable, and Inconsiderate." It was written for those in danger of being right-sized, down-sized, and re-organized out of a job.

Living lives of quiet affluence in a historic, suburban Boston town, Gavin and Lisa Brinkley had no idea how quickly and decisively their lives, and those of their two young daughters, could be upended. A series of events a mysterious break-in at their home, some menacing tailgating on the highway from Boston, a startling visit from an F.B.I. agent warning of an imminent kidnapping attempt leads to the familys abrupt uprooting from its comfortable existence into a terrifying new existence on the run, under new identities. This taut thriller by a father-daughter team follows the eleven-year odyssey of an American family on the run, in hiding through the mountain states of the American west, where survival skills and living off the grid are paramount, but so are friendship, cooperation, and resilience. The enemy, always lurking just out of sight, is a foreign cyber-criminal enterprise that launches breathtaking assaults on the American banking system and physical infrastructure, but the Brinkleys also know that the threat is deeply personal, reaching ever closer to them from the shadows of the past. At the same time, Gavin and Lisa discover the perils of wandering too close to the edges of the dark side, in the murky world of cyber-security. A compelling story of suspense and treachery, HIDING IN SUNSHINE is also a celebration of a familys abiding love and courage -- and a young girls faith in the triumph of the truth.

Notes Of A Love Song written by Claire Verney and has been published by FriesenPress this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-15 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

When Claire Verney agreed to ‘for better or for worse, in sickness and in health’ she never imagined the journey that lay ahead of her. Her husband Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease at the age of forty-six. Notes of a Love Song chronicles their lives as Claire becomes her husband’s full-time caregiver and medical advocate as he struggles with the ravages of end-stage Parkinson's. It spans the final four years of Michael's life at home where he lived and died with dignity through the constant care and love of his wife. The author weaves her way through the history of her husband's disease while reflecting on her own history, her family and how all are deeply affected by this mercilessly degenerative disease. Told with warmth and humour, Notes of a Love Song offers a rare and timely glimpse into the realities of long-term care of parents and spouses, either in institutions or at home. It is written as a love story, a tribute, but is equally a how-to manual, imparting valuable medical information about Parkinson's Disease, dementia, palliative care and the importance of patient advocacy.

This omnibus edition of The Rare series brings the entire trilogy together in one volume! The Rare Olivia Sloane doesn’t want to live anymore. Her whole life is a struggle. Her health, her school, her social life, and even her relationship with her mother are all a mess. The world itself is a mess. With lethal acid rain and stifling, ever-present fog, nothing thrives in her home city, and it’s even worse outside—or so she’s been taught. Her best friend, David, also has a hard life, but he has hope. He’s convinced that there’s something better hidden beyond the fence surrounding their city and has always suggested escaping together. Olivia has never taken it seriously. But after a failed suicide attempt, her stay in the mental ward leads to a series of suspicious encounters with her mother and a fight at school. Feeling like there is nothing left to lose, she decides to give David’s idea a shot. Despite their poor health and reports of killer beasts, Olivia and David brave the wilderness. The truth they discover there—not just about their society but about themselves—is more astonishing than anything they ever imagined. The Remnant Now that Olivia and David have discovered that their life in the city was a lie, their pursuit of the truth gives them a newfound purpose. Is there more to their Rare abilities than what they’ve discovered so far? Is there something about them that the government is trying to keep hidden? Taken captive and tortured by her oppressors, Olivia narrowly escapes with help from an unexpected source. She rejoins what’s left of her new friends, only to find their home destroyed and coalition forces closing in to finish them off. Running for their lives, they set out on a desperate quest to find the Haven, a mysterious city that is rumored to be harboring and protecting Rares. This journey will take them deep into the wilderness and bring them to the edges of another coalition stronghold before they find their way. But the danger in front of them is rivaled only by the danger closing in behind them, and Olivia’s new abilities will be put to the test. As they discover more secrets, the ones they bring with them may be the most important of all. The Return The moment Olivia’s family is finally together in Uncle Eli’s camp, violence comes between them when Matthias shoots her mother, who has proven untrustworthy too many times. But not all is lost because of her mother—with the help of Uncle Eli, they find out the rumors they have been chasing are true. The Haven is real. Freedom is in sight. At least, it will be once David and Olivia cross the DMZ. But that’s easier said than done: assuming they don’t freeze or starve in the bleak of winter, they must survive an irradiated no-man’s-land reclaimed by the wilderness. With Eli’s suspicious camp, the Coalition on their trail, and in-fighting among their own group, they’re running out of time and options to find a way across. What happens when Olivia and David are forced to make painful choices between ideals and safety?

Ebony is based on a famous WWI charger that belonged to General Chapelle. The story opens with his birth in the stable of Hansall Manor where his arrival is greeted by family and staff. When he is four he goes to war with his mother, master and groom. The crossing is hazardous and terrifying for them and their equine comrades down in the hold of the ship. One by one the family and staff leave. Sally the parlour maid goes into the dangerous business of munitions. Bob the boot-boy runs away to join up. Jessica the General's daughter becomes a VAD. Only Molly, the fortune-telling cook, the General's wife and an old servant, are left. The horse hospitals at the front were provided and run by the Blue Cross Animals' Hospital entirely on voluntary donations. Everything possible was done for the horses. Lady Hamsall, along with many others in the country, worked incessantly to provide everything the horses needed. Ebony finally triumphs with his famous charge through the front line. 'Our Dumb Friends League' was the early name of the Blue Cross. Hopefully this story of Ebony might help his descendents today.
