Universities have become essential players in the generation of knowledge and innovation. Through the commercialization of technology, they have developed the ability to influence regional economic growth. By examining different commercialization models this book analyses technology transfer at universities as part of a national and regional system. It provides insight as to why certain models work better than others, and reaffirms that technology transfer programs must be linked to their regional and commercial environments. Using a global perspective on technology commercialization, this book divides the discussion between developed and developing counties according to the level of university commercialization capability. Critical cases as well as country reports examine the policies and culture of university involvement in economic development, relationships between university and industry, and the commercialization of technology first developed at universities. In addition, each chapter provides examples from specific universities in each country from a regional, national, and international comparative perspective. This book includes articles by leading practitioners as well as researchers and will be highly relevant to all those with an interest in innovation studies, organizational studies, regional economics, higher education, public policy and business entrepreneurship.

A Multi Industrial Linkages Approach To Cluster Building In East Asia written by Akifumi Kuchiki and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-28 with Business & Economics categories.
This book proposes measures to promote regional industrial development in East Asia from the perspective of three industries: agriculture, food, and tourism. The authors argue that for regional agriculture to develop, collaboration with the food industry is essential. Further, by linking tourism, economic collaboration between the three industries is strengthened. The first part of the book introduces a basic model for the formation of the agriculture, food, and tourism industry cluster. Contributions from leading academics in agricultural economics then go on to discuss the relevance of this multi-industry cluster in countries such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Cambodia, amongst others. The final part sets out new approaches for further development in the cluster through quantitative analyses of the ‘economies of sequence’ concept. Readers will discover that from establishing linkages between different industries and other economic sectors, important positive externalities can be generated and these processes can be triggered on the local or cluster level.

Discover the extraordinary progress that welding metallurgy has experienced over the last two decades Welding Metallurgy, 3rd Edition is the only complete compendium of recent, and not-so-recent, developments in the science and practice of welding metallurgy. Written by Dr. Sindo Kou, this edition covers solid-state welding as well as fusion welding, which now also includes resistance spot welding. It restructures and expands sections on Fusion Zones and Heat-Affected Zones. The former now includes entirely new chapters on microsegregation, macrosegregation, ductility-dip cracking, and alloys resistant to creep, wear and corrosion, as well as a new section on ternary-alloy solidification. The latter now includes metallurgy of solid-state welding. Partially Melted Zones are expanded to include liquation and cracking in friction stir welding and resistance spot welding. New chapters on topics of high current interest are added, including additive manufacturing, dissimilar-metal joining, magnesium alloys, and high-entropy alloys and metal-matrix nanocomposites. Dr. Kou provides the reader with hundreds of citations to papers and articles that will further enhance the reader’s knowledge of this voluminous topic. Undergraduate students, graduate students, researchers and mechanical engineers will all benefit spectacularly from this comprehensive resource. The new edition includes new theories/methods of Kou and coworkers regarding: · Predicting the effect of filler metals on liquation cracking · An index and analytical equations for predicting susceptibility to solidification cracking · A test for susceptibility to solidification cracking and filler-metal effect · Liquid-metal quenching during welding · Mechanisms of resistance of stainless steels to solidification cracking and ductility-dip cracking · Mechanisms of macrosegregation · Mechanisms of spatter of aluminum and magnesium filler metals, · Liquation and cracking in dissimilar-metal friction stir welding, · Flow-induced deformation and oscillation of weld-pool surface and ripple formation · Multicomponent/multiphase diffusion bonding Dr. Kou’s Welding Metallurgy has been used the world over as an indispensable resource for students, researchers, and engineers alike.
