Hipnosis, atau yang lebih dikenal masyarakat dengan sebutan Hipnotis, sampai saat ini sering memunculkan persepsi rancu (yang positif maupun negatif) di masyarakat awam. Dalam buku ini, akan ditunjukkan dan diajarkan bahwa sebenarnya hipnotis adalah salah satu cabang ilmu pengetahuan. Hipnotis pertama kali dikembangkan oleh seorang dokter dari Wina yang bernama dr. Franz Anton Mesmer pada abad ke-17. Kemudian hipnotis dikembangkan lebih lanjut oleh dokter dan praktisi nonmedis di Eropa dan Amerika sampai sekarang. Jika dipraktikkan dengan tepat dan benar, hipnotis mampu memberikan hasil yang kadang terkesan ajaib. Hipnotis bisa digunakan hampir di semua bidang karena sifatnya yang seperti sebuah katalis yang fleksibel, tools atau faktor kali yang mampu mempercepat sebuah proses dan membuatnya lebih efektif. Artinya, ketika hipnotis digunakan dalam penipuan, pelaku harus menguasai trik dan manuver penipuannya supaya efektif. Jadi, dalam hal ini hipnotis hanya digunakan sebagai faktor kali untuk mempermudah proses serta memperkuat efek dan trik penipuan tersebut saja. Di sisi lain, hipnotis juga bisa digunakan sebagai faktor kali dalam berbagai bidang lain secara posifif. Jika dikombinasikan dengan teknik terapi maka disebut dengan Hipnoterapi, dikalikan dengan sport psychology maka disebut HipnoSports, diaplikasikan bersamaan dengan ilmu selling maka disebut HipnoSelling, digabung dengan trik hiburan panggung maka disebut Stage Hypnosis seperti yang sering ditayangkan di TV. Masih banyak aplikasi hipnotis di bidang lainnya, seperti Forensic Hypnosis, Hypnosis Dontics, Hypno Parenting, Hypno Briting, Hypno Teaching. Jadi, dengan sifatnya yang netral dan fleksibel, hipnotis jarang dipakai secara tunggal, tetapi selalu dikombinasikan dengan teknik atau disiplin ilmu yang lain. Selain memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat awam tentang ilmu hipnitis yang ilmiah ini, buku ini juga mengajarkan intisari dan konsep dasar dari teknik menghipnotis yang sudah disederhanakan dengan menghilangkan banyak mitos, tradisi, dan ritual yang sebenarnya tidak penting.
