Vallery takes custody of her mentally disturbed younger half-sister, Jeanne, who resents Ed’s presence in their lives. How far will the disturbed girl go to break up the couple? As Vallery and Ed pursue their love affair, they discover shocking evidence that a deceased World War II veteran was actually the father of them both. Could they really be brother and sister? This tense story comes to a climactic ending as Jeanne’s instability erupts in violence. Two Purple Hearts will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Purple Hearts Battle Scars written by John Schneider and has been published by Booksurge Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-07-23 with Korean War, 1950-1953 categories.

"Purple Hearts-Battle Scars" is a vivid and sensitive account of combat in the Korean War as seen through the eyes of a nineteen-year old Marine sergeant. This is no macho book; with nine months of combat and two Purple Hearts, the author has no need to prove his credentials or his manhood. Rather, he quietly and movingly shares his experience of war, of the loss and the courage, of the comradship and the pain, and of the grim reality that in modern warfare survival is mosly a matter of luck--and he shows us what it is like when the luck runs out and the hot shell fragment tears into flesh. We learn the weapons and the tactics, the terror of night battles and we see the hills devoid of vegetation as the constant shelling reduces the land to powder. A Foreword and an Afterword by Marine Lt. General Bernard E. Trainor (Ret.) provide this book a context that gives the reader both an overview and a concluding point of rest.

A Purple Heart is the token honor given to soldiers for their wounds, it makes, them heroes. It is the title that Nina Berman has given to her photographs of American soldiers gravely wounded in the Iraq war, who have returned home to face life away from the waving flags and heroic send-offs. The images are accompanied by first-person interviews with the soldiers, who discuss their lives, reasons for enlisting, and experience in Iraq. They provide a glimpse into the myths of warfare as glorious spectacle through the minds of young men desperate to believe in the righteousness of their actions. One soldier explains that he always wanted to be a hero. He thought the military would be fun--he would jump out of planes. He never imagined it could be ugly until he saw "Saving Private Ryan. He is now a cripple, doped up all day on pain medications, flat broke, with one kid and another on the way. Another soldier describes how he called a recruiting station after watching an MTV-style commercial for the Army on TV.,An immigrant from Pakistan, he was given his citizenship following his injury. It's a fair trade in his mind: a leg for an American passport.

A coal miner, Don, drafted to fight with the elite Rainbow Division in WWI under General Douglas MacArthur; a pregnant wife with a toddler whose relationship with her mother-in-law is constantly strained; a mother whose love for her son had her leave her Appalachian Mountain home and travel to France on the Gold Star Mothers Pilgrimage in order to take the mountains to her son and bring her son back to the mountains; and Dons son who fights in WWII with the elite Devils Brigade, the first Special Forces Unit in the U.S. Army, are remarkable because these events really took place. This six-act play is the story of two men and two women whose lives were intertwined through blood and war. Sarah Williams Dyson (1874-1957) grew up in the North Carolina mountains with her country doctor father. Sarahs only son, Don, married Vennie Lee Shull in 1914 and moved to Dante, Virginia, to work in the coal mines. Dons draft into WWI in 1917 came at a time when married men were not subject to the draft. In 1923, Vennie remarried. After Vennies divorce, Sarah, 12 years after her sons death, was invited to view Dons tomb-rock in France with other mothers and widows. In 1942, Sarah and Vennie had to watch Dons son, Claude, volunteer to fight in WWII even though he was exempt from fighting since he was the only son of a casualty from WWI. Remembering his dads only written message to him: Dont never be a solder my boy, Claude returned home severely wounded. Don and Claude both received purple hearts and other medals for their bravery. This breed of historian forsakes the myths and yellow journalism and delves into the lives of the characters through primary sources of journals, military records, letters, family Bibles, and first-hand knowledge of neighbors, family, and friends of the characters in the play.

A slow burn romance with a spiritual bent. Everyone has a war story to tell. A jaded cop struggling to come to terms with her past falls for an idealistic former Marine turned cat rescuer on the crime-infested streets of west Baltimore. Hope Kennedy is a cynical Baltimore cop. Her beat is the Mondawmin area of west Baltimore-the most dangerous neighborhood in America's most dangerous city. And she's struggling-unsuccessfully-to overcome a terrible event that has come to shape her life. Hope's become angry and bitter. She's spiraling out of control. Hope has lost hope. Luke Matthews is a decorated Marine Corps combat veteran. He received the Purple Heart for a wound inflicted in Afghanistan. Now, he works as a carpenter for a nonprofit that builds homes for disabled vets. In his spare time, he volunteers with a local cat rescue. But Luke's battling his own demons. He's haunted by the war. Specifically, by a fog of war experience-a tragic accident-that has left him racked with guilt. When Hope and Luke meet in a dingy alley, it's anything but love at first sight. But a near-fatal accident a week later forges a bond. Eventually, in the middle of a cold Baltimore winter, a romance heats up. Little-by-little, Hope and Luke help one another feel alive again. But Hope doesn't know how to process her past, a past that is now jeopardizing her future. And as she and Luke get closer, she questions whether she's worthy of love. Can two wounded, badly bruised, purple hearts come together and help one another heal? Purple Hearts is not for the faint of heart. It's as gritty as the city it's set in. It's a slow burn, blue-collar romance about going the distance. And finding unconditional love at the end of the journey. And along this journey, Hope and Luke meet a memorable cast of supporting characters-a no-nonsense police sergeant who practices tough love. A colorful late-night radio DJ. A homeless Vietnam veteran. A repentant mobster. A precocious young boy who seems to be in the know. A mysterious emergency room physician. A street cat looking for his forever home. And a little girl fighting cancer. Purple Hearts is a story about life and death, joy and sorrow, laughter and tears-and ultimately, hope. All wrapped in the love of two perfectly imperfect human beings.

This is a true story of love, hope faith and sacrifice and conflict with family. There are many women who have lost a husband like me in deployment. My husband was injured twice and earned two purple hearts. His third purple heart separated us forever. A Love Story: and the three purple hearts is my memoir, about a young woman who falls in love with a soldier. It’s a story about young love and conflict with family, and what happens when you break your parents home rules. Over us all loomed the greater conflict in Iraq—Operation Iraqi Freedom. This I learned the hard way: for freedom, comes sacrifice, but in the end, love is what matters.

When Private Matt Duffy wakes up in an army hospital in Iraq, he's honored with a Purple Heart. But he doesn't feel like a hero. There's a memory that haunts him: an image of a young Iraqi boy as a bullet hits his chest. Matt can't shake the feeling that he was somehow involved in his death. But because of a head injury he sustained just moments after the boy was shot, Matt can't quite put all the pieces together. Eventually Matt is sent back into combat with his squad—Justin, Wolf, and Charlene—the soldiers who have become his family during his time in Iraq. He just wants to go back to being the soldier he once was. But he sees potential threats everywhere and lives in fear of not being able to pull the trigger when the time comes. In combat there is no black-and-white, and Matt soon discovers that the notion of who is guilty is very complicated indeed. National Book Award Finalist Patricia McCormick has written a visceral and compelling portrait of life in a war zone, where loyalty is valued above all, and death is terrifyingly commonplace.
