Between 1992 and 1996 CDF collected about 100 pb−1 of data at a √s = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This data sample led to a large number of precision measurements of B hadrons properties including their masses, lifetimes and neutral B meson oscillation parameters and the discovery of the B{sub c} meson. Here the author reports on three recent results: the measurement of the B+ production cross section, the search for radiative penguin B hadron decays and the measurement of the CP violating parameter sin 2[beta]. These results are significant examples of the breadth of the CDF program. In 2001 the main injector will allow the Tevatron initially to deliver 1 fb−1 per year at √s = 2 TeV. The CDF detector will undergo major upgrades which will further increase the B physics reach.

The CDF Run I B physics program has been very successful, making numerous measurements over a wide variety of B physics topics. Measurements have included masses and lifetimes; discovery of the B[sub c]; B[sub s][r-arrow] J/[psi][phi] polarization; B[sup 0][leftrightarrow][bar B][sup 0] mixing; sin (2[beta]); and rare decay limits. Recent results include a search for[Lambda][sub b][r-arrow][Lambda][gamma] and a study of B[sup 0][r-arrow] J/[psi]K(*)[sup 0][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]] decays. The tools and experience developed during Run I are quite valuable as CDF enters Run II.

B-physics results from the CDF Collaboration based on data collected during the Tevatron run 1A and 1B are presented. In particular we discuss the measurements of B meson masses and lifetimes, the limits set on rare B decay branching ratios and B{sub o}{bar B}{sub o} mixing results obtained with both time-integrated and time-evolution analysis. We use the current results to extrapolate CDF B-physics prospects to the end of run 1 and to the future high luminosity run II.

During the Run 1 data taking period, from 1992 through 1995, CDF has acquired 110 pb−1 of p{anti p} collisions at a center of mass energy of 1,800 GeV. This data has provided many results on B physics, and provides a basis for extrapolating to Run 2, which is scheduled to start in 1999 after major upgrades to both the accelerator and detector. The authors present herein a summary of Run 1 results relevant to an analysis of the CP asymmetry in B → J/[psi]K{sub s}, the CDF upgrade plans for Run 2, and some of the main B physics goals related to the exploration of the origin of CP violation.
