TypeScript Revealed is a quick 100-page guide to Anders Hejlsberg's new take on JavaScript. With this brief, fast-paced introduction to TypeScript, .NET, Web and Windows 8 application developers who are already familiar with JavaScript will easily get up to speed with TypeScript and decide whether or not to start incorporating it into their own development. TypeScript is ‘JavaScript for Application-scale development’; a superset of JavaScript that brings to it an additional object-oriented-like syntax familiar to .NET programmers that compiles down into simple, clean JavaScript that any browser can run today. It’s also tied to the next version of the JavaScript standard, which means that TypeScript will continue to evolve over time to keep in step with that standard and with the capabilities of the engines that will execute JavaScript applications. If you are a .NET developer, Web designer or developer, or a programmer with a keen interest in scalable applications, TypeScript Revealed is a great way to get started with the language, learn how it compiles into JavaScript, and how easy it is to learn from a .NET/Java developer's perspective. Takes you through the language features in Typescript additional to those in JavaScript Describes the tooling and community support for TypeScript development Discusses how TypeScript can be included in ASP.NET, Windows 8, and node.js application development projects.

The Personal Memoirs Of Julia Dent Grant written by John Y Simon and has been published by SIU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-12-12 with Biography & Autobiography categories.
Written in the early twentieth century for her children and grandchildren and first published in 1975, these eloquent memoirs detail the life of General Ulysses S. Grant’s wife. First Lady Julia Dent Grant wrote her reminiscences with the vivacity and charm she exhibited throughout her life, telling her story in the easy flow of an afternoon conversation with a close friend. She writes fondly of White Haven, a plantation in St. Louis County, Missouri, where she had an idyllic girlhood and later met Ulysses. In addition to relating the joys she experienced, Grant tells about the difficult and sorrowful times. Her anecdotes give fascinating glimpses into the years of the American Civil War. One recounts the night President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. Grant insisted she and her husband turn down an invitation to the theater. Her decision saved her husband’s life: like Lincoln, he too had been marked for assassination. Throughout these memoirs, which she ends with her husband’s death, Grant seeks to introduce her descendants to both her and the man she loved. She also strives to correct misconceptions that were circulated about him. She wanted posterity to share her pride in this man, whom she saw as one of America’s greatest heroes. Her book is a testament to their devoted marriage. This forty-fifth-anniversary edition includes a new foreword by John F. Marszalek and Frank J. Williams, a new preface by Pamela K. Sanfilippo, the original foreword by Bruce Catton, the original introduction by editor John Y. Simon, recommendations for further reading, and more than twenty photographs of the Grants, their children, and their friends.

A Guide To The Maximus Poems Of Charles Olson written by George F. Butterick and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-15 with Poetry categories.
A Guide to the Maximus Poems of Charles Olson offers an essential companion to Olson's monumental and intricate Maximus Poems. This scholarly guide navigates the complexities of Olson’s allusive and expansive verse, which spans themes from local Gloucester history to universal mythologies. With nearly 4,000 annotations, the guide meticulously decodes references to historical figures, literary works, geographical landmarks, and philosophical concepts. It moves line by line, offering insight into Olson’s sources and intellectual framework, including his borrowings from Algonquin legends, Arabic angelology, and Whitehead’s cosmology. Rich with unpublished material from Olson’s papers, as well as letters, interviews, and classroom notes, the guide aims to equip readers with the tools to actively engage with Olson's text, uncovering its layered meanings through his principle of ‘istorin—"to find out for oneself." Structured chronologically rather than alphabetically, the guide mirrors the progression of Olson’s three-volume epic, weaving historical scholarship with interpretive clarity. Each annotation situates Olson’s references in context, revealing the intricate interplay between history, myth, and the poet's life in Gloucester. The guide further illuminates Olson’s creative process, tracing the evolution of his ideas through drafts, personal correspondences, and published works. Designed as both a reference and an entry point into Olson’s ambitious poetic project, it not only deepens appreciation for The Maximus Poems but also serves as a model for literary scholarship, inviting readers to engage with Olson’s world on their own intellectual journey. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press’s mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Drawing on a backlist dating to 1893, Voices Revived makes high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship accessible once again using print-on-demand technology. This title was originally published in 1980.

All Authors Are Equal written by Fredric Warburg and has been published by Plunkett Lake Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-08-17 with Biography & Autobiography categories.
Fredric Warburg, partner in the London firm of Secker & Warburg from 1936 until 1971, considered publishing an attractive occupation and a way of life. In this personal, often humorous memoir of his life until his retirement, Warburg picks up where he left off in 1939 in An Occupation for Gentlemen. Warburg’s discussion of George Orwell’s Animal Farm and 1984 is an important contribution to literary history. Other chapters include Warburg’s landmark 1954 trial for publishing an “obscene” book, his edition of Kafka, the translation of Robert Musil’sThe Man Without Qualities, his visit to the aged Colette, a sketch of Thomas Mann, the strange tale of The Bridge on the River Kwai, the rise of Angus Wilson to stardom. In perhaps the funniest chapter, Warburg describes how he was duped by a plumber from Devonshire who pretended to be a Tibetan lama. A 1952 business deal by Secker & Warburg with Heinemann anticipates more recent consolidations in the publishing industry. Throughout Warburg’s memoir of literary and publishing history, the passionate personality of his wife, Pamela de Bayou, stands out, commenting on, criticizing and sometimes transforming a situation or a policy. All Authors Are Equal is for anyone who enjoys good books and the making of good books, and for all students of publishing. In the author’s own words: “The book as a whole may be seen as the story of my publishing life, the chapters and sections of chapters are in the main stories within the story. So it is that the book is a hybrid not an autobiography, not a history of a publishing house, not a philosophy of publishing, not a series of critical studies, but a bit of all these. [...] The deeper feelings of publishers are not often revealed to their authors while the publishing relationship exists. The publisher tends to be wary, diplomatic, reserved, rather hopeful, slightly pessimistic, laudatory, jolly, critical, or so diverse a mixture of all these as to end up more or less blank. Praise is dangerous — it might give an author ideas. Blame is perilous — the author may stop writing or even seek another publisher. To tell an author the unvarnished truth, as the publisher sees it, is no doubt hazardous, but it is a policy I have always tried to follow as far as possible, and with that policy I have had more successes than failures.” Praise for An Occupation for Gentlemen: “An engaging autobiography... Mr. Warburg writes with a nice light touch and with considerable charm and humor. His remarks about publishing are interesting and pointed.” — Orville Prescott, The New York Times “An entertaining and instructive book about two deep and ancient mysteries, human character and the trade of publishing.” — Jacques Barzun “Fredric Warburg’s autobiography is... wonderfully engaging. Mr. Warburg is that rarity among publishers. He writes extremely well.” — Moss Hart

Poet, polemicist, pagan, and pretender to the throne of Poland, Count Geoffrey Potocki de Montalk was one of the glittering generation of New Zealand poets of the 1930s. His career took a strange turn after he was imprisoned for obscene libel. Following a celebrated trial in London, he became increasingly eccentric, dressing in mock-medieval garb, claiming the throne of Poland, and issuing a stream of poetry and pamphlets, before returning to New Zealand in the 1980s and 1990s. This is the first time his full story has been told and it will be relevant to those interested in the literature of obscenity, the history of censorship, and private press publishing in the 20th century.

The Collected Papers Of Bertrand Russell Volume 29 written by Bertrand Russell and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-10-12 with Philosophy categories.
Détente or Destruction, 1955-57 continues publication of Routledge's multi-volume critical edition of Bertrand Russell's shorter writings. Between September 1955 and November 1957 Russell published some sixty-one articles, reviews, statements, contributions to books and letters to editors, over fifty of which are contained in this volume. The texts, several of them hitherto unpublished, reveal the deepening of Russell's commitment to the anti-nuclear struggle, upon which he embarked in the previous volume of Collected Papers (Man's Peril, 1954-55). Continuing with the theme of nuclear peril, this volume contains discussion of nuclear weapons, world peace, prospects for disarmament and British-Soviet friendship against the backdrop of the Cold War. One of the key papers in this volume is Russell's message to the inaugural conference of the Pugwash movement, which Russell was instrumental in launching and which became an influential, independent forum of East-West scientific cooperation and counsel on issues as an internationally agreed nuclear test-ban. In addition to the issues of war and peace, Russell, now in his eighties, continued to take an interest in a wide variety of themes. Russell not only addresses older controversies over nationalism and empire, religious belief and American civil liberties, he also confronts head-on the new and pressing matters of armed intervention in Hungary and Suez, and of the manufacture and testing of the British hydrogen bomb. This volume includes seven interviews ranging from East-West Relations after the Geneva conference to a Meeting with Russell.

Upgrade your skillset, succeed at work, and above all, avoid the many headaches that come with modern front-end development. Simplify your codebase with hands-on examples pulled from real-life applications. Master the mysteries of asynchronous state management, detangle puzzling race conditions, and send spaceships soaring through the cosmos. When you finish this book, you'll be able to tame the wild codebeasts before they ever get a chance to wreck your day. The front-end world can be fraught with complexity. The RxJS library offers a solution: Observables. Observables merge other JavaScript asynch mechanisms such as callbacks and promises into a new way of looking at data. Instead of dealing with objects and keeping track of their state, Observables view asynchronous events as a stream. RxJS provides you the tools to manage, manipulate, and process Observables to simplify and speed up your front-end applications. Never fear, you're in exactly the right place. Don't worry about getting stuck in a mire of theory. Start off with the basics, building small applications that illustrate deeper points. Take those building blocks and apply them to much more complex problems like handling asynchronous state and dodging race conditions before they happen. Once you've got a handle on complex problems, take a leap into architecture, discovering how to structure an Observable-based application both without a framework and in the land of Angular 2. After mastering Observables, switch gears to building a canvas-based game, demonstrating your deep understanding of the flexibility of Observables. Master the Observable with RxJS, and make your asynchronous JavaScript code that much cleaner and simpler. What You Need: Any major browser and text editor, as well as the current versions of git, NodeJS, and npm.
