The Tabernacle S Typical Teaching written by Algernon James Pollock and has been published by Scripture Truth this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07 with Religion categories.

Algernon James Pollock's classic volume is an exposition of "types" - people, places, objects, events, offices, activities and institutions - connected with the Tabernacle, the Priesthood, the Offerings and the Feasts (particularly as described in the first five books of the Old Testament) which foreshadow their corresponding New Testament "antitypes" - most particularly Christ Himself. The author wrote in a postscript to the first edition: "The reward of this modest volume will be if it whets the appetite of the reader, leading him to desire to know more of these wondrous subjects. The theme is delightful indeed as it leads the heart into contact with Christ, subduing it by a deepening sense of the meaning of the death of Christ, leading out at the same time the affections of the heart to Him to Whom the believer owes everything for time and eternity." Elsewhere he once wrote: "We appeal to our readers, especially young men and women, to give the Bible a fair trial. Read it, study it, and seek earnestly the truth." The publishers commend this book to you as an aid to such study, confident that as you read, your appreciation will grow of the wonder of the One who is indeed the Tabernacle's true Theme, and is Himself the Truth.

It is written of the risen Lord that "having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself" (Luke 24:27). Many of those "things concerning himself" are found in the book of Exodus -- a part of the Holy Scriptures peculiarly rich in typical teaching and nothing more is needed to make it attractive to those who love Him. It is sent forth with prayer that, at a time when God is doing much to awaken the hearts of His saints to the spiritual value of the Old Testament, it may, by His grace, contribute to edification.

The word “exodus” means going out, and it is essentially an escape story. All escape stories are exciting and interesting to read, and the book of Exodus is no exception. Here we have the account of the greatest escape in human history. A military expert has sat down to work out the kind of problems facing this escape. You realise that there were probably over two million people – men, women, and children – to say nothing of thousands of animals. They lived in the most fortified country that the world had then seen. Its borders were held by rows of fortresses. The book of Exodus is not just an escape, it is an elopement. For it is the story of a runaway marriage, the true story of a covenant made between God and his people. God said: “Let my people go that they may come and serve me.” It is not just to be saved from Pharaoh, but to be saved to God. This is the story of the book of Exodus – how they began the journey that was to lead to the land of blessing.

Behind the scenes of movies like The Ten Commandments, The Prince of Egypt, or Exodus: Gods and Kings is a complicated, and at times, messy biblical story. In this short guide to the book of Exodus, Biblical scholar Peter Enns doesn't just break down the story for the average person to understand but takes us behind the story-to the history and traditions that led us to the story as we have it today. By asking the important questions like, "What kind of book are we reading?" and taking us along Moses's and the Israelite journey, Enns brings the best in biblical scholarship to us everyday people. And, as we have come to expect from Pete Enns, he does it with his usual humor and wit. "Pete Enns does it again! In Exodus for Normal People, he provides us with a roadmap for understanding the book of Exodus through the lens of what concerned ancient people. He makes accessible the best of biblical scholarship with humor and insight, reminding us to respect Scripture in all its complexities. A hard task that Pete makes look simple." Richard Rohr, author of The Universal Christ, Falling Upward, and Things Hidden: Scripture as Spirituality "Enns helps readers to understand Exodus as responding to ancient Israel's questions of identity, theology, and history, to raise their own questions, and frequently to laugh out loud." Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies, Vanderbilt Divinity School; coauthor of The Meaning of the Bible: What the Jewish Scriptures and Christian Old Testament Can Teach Us "The title says it all-this is a wonderful introduction to the text, themes, and meaning of the Bible's second book for normal people-those who are curious about the Bible, but never dove deeply into the text. In a clever, chatty, and casual style, Pete Enns interprets Exodus as 'mythicized history, ' written in 'the religious language of a tribalistic, Iron Age society, ' making contemporary biblical scholarship, based on archeology and study of the ancient Near East, interesting and accessible." Marc Brettler, PhD, Professor in Judaic Studies, Duke University; author of How to Read the Bible "Pete Enns is a real scholar who doesn't write like one-thank heavens. He writes with knowledge of the scholarship but in the language of a thoughtful layperson. Reading Enns one feels like the author is having a personal chat with his reader. He is smart, learned, and witty. In a word: normal." Richard Elliott Friedman, PhD, Professor of Jewish Studies, University of Georgia; author of The Exodus and Who Wrote the Bible?

Gleanings In Exodus is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle.[4] In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings. In January 1922, Pink published the first issue of Studies in the Scriptures, which by the end of the following year had about a thousand subscribers and which was to occupy most of his time for the remainder of his life and become the source for dozens of books, some arranged from Studies articles after his death. In 1923 Pink suffered a nervous breakdown, and he and his wife lived with friends in Philadelphia until he regained his health. In 1925, the Pinks sailed to Sydney, Australia, where he served as both an evangelist and Bible teacher at the Ashfield Tabernacle. But his impolitic preaching of Calvinist doctrine resulted in a unanimous resolve of the Baptist Fraternal of New South Wales not to endorse him. From 1926 to 1928, Pink served as pastor of two groups of Strict and Particular Baptists. Returning to England, Pink was invited to preach at a pastorless church in Seaton, Devon; but though he was welcomed by some members, the overseers thought his installation as pastor would split the church. In the spring of 1929, Pink and wife returned to her home state of Kentucky where he intended to become pastor of the Baptist church in Morton's Gap. Once again his hopes were unrealized. To a friend he wrote, "I am more firmly convinced today than I was 14 months ago that our place is on the 'outside of the camp.' That is the place of 'reproach,' of loneliness, and of testing." In 1930 Pink was able to start a Bible class in Glendale, California, while also turning down opportunities to speak in some Fundamentalist churches. The following year, the Pinks rented an unpainted wooden house in Union County, Pennsylvania, where a small group met; then in 1933 they moved to York.
