Karena tak ada yang lebih penting selain persaudaraan dan keutuhan bangsa ini) Tema ukhuwah atau persaudaraan di edisi ini tercetus atas dasar keprihatinan kami terhadap gejolak perpecahan dan perseteruan umat karena hal-hal yang semestinya tidak lebih penting dari persaudaraan itu sendiri. Lebih-lebih putusnya persaudaraan/perpecahan itu –menurut mereka– atas dasar agama dan dalil-dalil Tuhan. Faktanya, agama hanya dijadikan kedok atau topeng untuk melegitimasi perbuatan mereka untuk mencaci, menghina, bahkan memutuskan persaudaraan. Agama, dalam hal ini adalah Islam tentu tak pernah menghalalkan perpecahan atau memutus persaudaraan atau hal-hal keji lainnya. Bisa jadi kesimpulan mereka yang masih memakai dalil agama sebagai alat untuk menebar kebencian dan membakar tali persaudaraan adalah pemahaman yang masih sangat dangkal. Atau sebetulnya mereka paham namun tetap memilih perilaku tak terpuji tersebuthanya demi mendapat sebuah keuntungan di dunia? Keadaan yang semacam ini (baca: perpecahan) akan menjadi contoh yang sangat buruk bagi generasi muda bangsa ini yang “konon” sangat menjunjung tinggi keragaman. Melihat para sesepuh saling tikam-menikam, saling sepak, saling menghancurkan satu sama lain hanya akan menumbuhkan bibit perpecahan baru di waktu mendatang. Jadi, jangan heran apabila bibit perpecahan itu menjadi subur dan menjelma menjadi tumbuhan pemangsa yang sadis. Kita butuh banyak tokoh yang menyuarakan tentang pentingnya ukhuwah dalam kehidupan secara menyeluruh. Karena sudah menjadi tabiat manusia yang mudah lupa apabila tak berulangulang diingatkan. Ditambah teladan para pemuka masyarakat yang menjadi figur rujukan rakyat untuk menampilkan profesionalitas dalam menyikapi perbedaan yang menjadi sebab perpecahan dalam persaudaraan. Instansi pendidikan dan keagamaan juga diharap gencar menyuarakan pentingya persaudaraan dan bahaya perpecahan untuk generasi muda. Mengutip ucapan Gus Dur, “Yang dilarang dalam agama Islam adalah perpecahan bukan perbedaan. Oleh sebab itu, di edisi ini kita mencoba menampilkan kembali dan merefleksikannya dalam kondisi sekarang sebagai tambahan khazanah urgensi ukhuwah dalam kehidupan manusia. Selamat menikmati, semoga memberikan manfaat. Wallahu ‘alam bis sowab.

Andai Umat Islam Bersatu Pada suatu hari, seorang ustadz menceritakan kisah Hadratussyaikh KH. M. Hasyim Asy’ari di depan santri-santrinya, “Dulu Kiai Hasyim itu selalu mengajak orang-orang Islam untuk bersatu. Makanya beliau mendapat julukan Bapak Umat Islam Indonesia.” Mendengar cerita itu, seorang santri bertanya, “Kalau Kiai Hasyim ingin umat Islam bersatu, kenapa beliau malah mendirikan Nahdlatul Ulama? Bukankah itu malah menambah pecahan-pecahan umat Islam?” Sang Ustadz yang saat itu belum ngopi kebingungan menjawabnya. Dia kemudian memejamkan mata dan tawasulan ke Hadratussyaikh, berharap mendapat inspirasi jawaban. Sayangnya jawaban tidak turun begitu saja. “Pertanyaanmu sangat bagus. Ini saya jadikan PR dulu ya? Pertemuan besok insyaallah akan saya jawab,” ucap sang ustadz. Dalam rangka membantu sang ustadz, Majalah Tebuireng kali ini mengangkat tema “Ukhuwah Islamiyah dan Persatuan Umat Islam”. Dua hal yang saling berhubungan ini perlu kita pahami untuk menjawab pertanyaan si santri di atas. Ukhuwah islamiyah yang biasa dipahami sebagai persaudaraan sesama muslim adalah perekat agar umat bisa bersatu. Hanya saja, ada bermacam-macam wujud persatuan. Ada persatuan fisik berupa meleburnya seluruh umat dalam satu wadah. Ada pula persatuan rasa dan semangat yang secara fisik tidak perlu dipaksa berada di wadah yang sama. Lantas, persatuan seperti apa yang diharapkan Hadratussyaikh waktu itu? Jika kita perhatikan sejarah hidup Hadratussyaikh, beliau agaknya berusaha merealisasikan kedua wujud persatuan itu. Terkait persatuan dalam satu wadah, beliau pernah memimpin MIAI, sebuah organisasi yang menyatukan seluruh kelompok Islam di Indonesia. Adapaun terkait persatuan rasa dan semangat, hal ini terlihat ketika beliau mendirikan NU yang secara fisik berpotensi menambah pecahan-pecahan kelompok Islam. Pertanyaan si santri bahkan bisa dikembangkan lebih luas lagi, seperti “Untuk apa Hadratussyaikh mengajak umat Islam bersatu?” “Apakah ajakan itu berdampak pada Pesantren Tebuireng yang beliau dirikan?” atau “Untuk kelompok Islam yang memiliki perbedaan prinsip dengan NU, bagaimana cara bersatunya?” Pertanyaan-pertanyaan seperti itulah yang kita sajikan jawabannya di edisi kali ini. Tentu tidak ada jawaban final. Tapi melalui tulisan-tulisan para pakar, kami berharap para pembaca akan lebih memahami bagaimana sejatinya makna ukhuwah islamiyah, bagaimana persatuan umat Islam yang diperjuangkan para pendahulu kita, serta bagaimana cara melanjutkan perjuangan itu di masa kini.
