This book provides readers with a state-of-the-art description of techniques to be used for ultra-low-power (ULP) and ultra-low-cost (ULC), short-range wireless receivers. Readers will learn what is required to deploy these receivers in short-range wireless sensor networks, which are proliferating widely to serve the internet of things (IoT) for “smart cities.” The authors address key challenges involved with the technology and the typical tradeoffs between ULP and ULC. Three design examples with advanced circuit techniques are described in order to address these trade-offs, which special focus on cost minimization. These three techniques enable respectively, cascading of radio frequency (RF) and baseband (BB) circuits under an ultra-low-voltage (ULV) supply, cascading of RF and BB circuits in current domain for current reuse and a novel function-reuse receiver architecture, suitable for ULV and multi-band ULP applications such as the sub-GHz ZigBee.

This book is dedicated to the analysis of parametric amplification with special emphasis on the MOS discrete-time implementation. This implementation is demonstrated by the presentation of several circuits where the MOS parametric amplifier cell is used: small gain amplifier, comparator with embedded pre-amplification, discrete-time mixer/IIR-Filter, and analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Experimental results are shown to validate the overall design technique.

Fully-depleted SOI CMOS Circuits and Technology for Ultralow-Power Applications addresses the problem of reducing the supply voltage of conventional circuits for ultralow-power operation and explains power-efficient MTCMOS circuit design for FD-SOI devices at a supply voltage of 0.5 V. The topics include the minimum required knowledge of the fabrication of SOI substrates; FD-SOI devices and the latest developments in device and process technologies; and ultralow-voltage circuits, such as digital circuits, analog/RF circuits, and DC-DC converters. Each ultra-low-power technique related to devices and circuits is fully explained using figures to help understanding.

Highly Integrated Low Power Radars written by Sergio Saponara and has been published by Artech House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-06-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

In recent years, advances in radio detection and ranging technology, sustained by new achievements in the fields of signal processing and electronic components, have permitted the adoption of radars in many civil and defense applications. This resource discusses how highly integrated radar has been adopted by several new markets such as contactless vital sign monitoring (heart rate, breath rate) or harbour traffic control, as well as several applications for vehicle driver assistance. You are provided with scenarios, applications, and requirements, while focusing on the trade-offs between flexibility, programmability, power consumption, size and weight, and complexity.

This book describes the design of optical receivers that use the most economical integration technology, while enabling performance that is typically only found in very expensive devices. To achieve this, all necessary functionality, from light detection to digital output, is integrated on a single piece of silicon. All building blocks are thoroughly discussed, including photodiodes, transimpedance amplifiers, equalizers and post amplifiers.

Over the years, the construction of models has played an important part in the discovery and dissemination of knowledge. The study of problems involving the coupling of several systems has been widely explored, essentially in the function of the change of constructive characteristics of machines and structures. Accordingly, vibrating (oscillatory) processes can be divided into the following types: free, forced, parametric, and self-excited oscillations. Furthermore, two or more oscillations can interact in the same oscillatory system. This book provides a comprehensive overview of oscillators and their applications. It includes eight chapters organized into three sections “MEMS and NEMS”, “Vibrations” and “Modeling”.

This book is written for academic and professional researchers designing communication systems for pervasive and low power applications. There is an introduction to wireless sensor networks, but the main emphasis of the book is on design techniques for low power, highly integrated transceivers. Instead of presenting a single design perspective, this book presents the design philosophies from three diverse research groups, providing three completely different strategies for achieving similar goals. By presenting diverse perspectives, this book prepares the reader for the countless design decisions they will be making in their own designs.

This book presents the cross-layer design and optimization of wake-up receivers for wireless body area networks (WBAN), with an emphasis on low-power circuit design. This includes the analysis of medium access control (MAC) protocols, mixer-first receiver design, and implications of receiver impairments on wideband frequency-shift-keying (FSK) receivers. Readers will learn how the overall power consumption is reduced by exploiting the characteristics of body area networks. Theoretical models presented are validated with two different receiver implementations, in 90nm and 40nm CMOS technology.
