Since 1850, mathematicians have successfully applied umbral calculus in many fields of mathematics and physics. The success of umbral calculus is due to the possibility of using techniques that have simplified the technicalities of calculations, which are usually wearisome when performed with conventional methods. Umbral Calculus: Techniques for Pure and Applied Mathematics book provides the theoretical basis and many examples of umbral calculus, including operator theory, Hermite, Frobenius-Euler, and other special polynomials, Bessel functions, and at the end, results concerning number theory within umbral calculus viewpoint.

Geared toward upper-level undergraduates and graduate students, this elementary introduction to classical umbral calculus requires only an acquaintance with the basic notions of algebra and a bit of applied mathematics (such as differential equations) to help put the theory in mathematical perspective. The text focuses on classical umbral calculus, which dates back to the 1850s and continues to receive the attention of modern mathematicians. Subjects include Sheffer sequences and operators and their adjoints, with numerous examples of associated and other sequences. Related topics encompass the connection constants problem and duplication formulas, the Lagrange inversion formula, operational formulas, inverse relations, and binomial convolution. The final chapter offers a glimpse of the newer and less well-established forms of umbral calculus.

This book presents a novel approach to umbral calculus, which uses only elementary linear algebra (matrix calculus) based on the observation that there is an isomorphism between Sheffer polynomials and Riordan matrices, and that Sheffer polynomials can be expressed in terms of determinants. Additionally, applications to linear interpolation and operator approximation theory are presented in many settings related to various families of polynomials.

Vedic Mathematics A Mathematical Tale From The Ancient Veda To Modern Times written by Giuseppe Dattoli and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-05-07 with Mathematics categories.

This is a book about Mathematics but not a book of Mathematics. It is an attempt, between the serious and facetious, of conveying the idea that a mathematical thought is the result of different experiences, geographical and social factors. Even though it is not clear when Mathematics had started, it is evident that it had been used at an early stage of human history and by ancient Babylonians and Egyptians who have already developed a sophisticated corpus of mathematical items, which were the workhorse tools in engineering, navigation, trades and astronomy. The book sweeps across the mathematical minds of the Greek and Arab traditions, concepts by Assyro-Babylonians, and ancient Indian Vedic culture. The mathematical mind has modeled the evolution of societies and has been modeled by it. It is now in the midst of a great revolution and it is not clear where it will bring us. The current new epoch needs new mathematical tools and, above this, a new way of looking at Mathematics. This book tells the tale of what went on and what might go on.

Problems And Recent Methods In Operator Theory written by Fernanda Botelho and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-04-18 with Functional analysis -- Linear function spaces and their duals -- Banach spaces of continuous, differentiable or analytic functions categories.

This volume contains the proceedings of the Workshop on Problems and Recent Methods in Operator Theory, held at the University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, from October 15–16, 2015 and the AMS Special Session on Advances in Operator Theory and Applications, in Memory of James Jamison, held at the University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, from October 17–18, 2015. Operator theory is at the root of several branches of mathematics and offers a broad range of challenging and interesting research problems. It also provides powerful tools for the development of other areas of science including quantum theory, physics and mechanics. Isometries have applications in solid-state physics. Hermitian operators play an integral role in quantum mechanics very much due to their “nice” spectral properties. These powerful connections demonstrate the impact of operator theory in various branches of science. The articles in this volume address recent problems and research advances in operator theory. Highlighted topics include spectral, structural and geometric properties of special types of operators on Banach spaces, with emphasis on isometries, weighted composition operators, multi-circular projections on function spaces, as well as vector valued function spaces and spaces of analytic functions. This volume gives a succinct overview of state-of-the-art techniques from operator theory as well as applications to classical problems and long-standing open questions.

A Comprehensive Treatment Of Q Calculus written by Thomas Ernst and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-13 with Mathematics categories.

To date, the theoretical development of q-calculus has rested on a non-uniform basis. Generally, the bulky Gasper-Rahman notation was used, but the published works on q-calculus looked different depending on where and by whom they were written. This confusion of tongues not only complicated the theoretical development but also contributed to q-calculus remaining a neglected mathematical field. This book overcomes these problems by introducing a new and interesting notation for q-calculus based on logarithms. For instance, q-hypergeometric functions are now visually clear and easy to trace back to their hypergeometric parents. With this new notation it is also easy to see the connection between q-hypergeometric functions and the q-gamma function, something that until now has been overlooked. The book covers many topics on q-calculus, including special functions, combinatorics, and q-difference equations. Apart from a thorough review of the historical development of q-calculus, this book also presents the domains of modern physics for which q-calculus is applicable, such as particle physics and supersymmetry, to name just a few.

Advanced Calculus: An Introduction to Modem Analysis, an advanced undergraduate textbook, provides mathematics majors, as well as students who need mathematics in their field of study, with an introduction to the theory and applications of elementary analysis. The text presents, inan accessible form, a carefully maintained balance between abstract concepts and applied results ofsignificance that serves to bridge the gap between the two- or three-cemester calculus sequence andsenior/graduate level courses in the theory and appplications of ordinary and partial differentialequations, complex variables, numerical methods, and measure and integration theory. The book focuses on topological concepts, such as compactness, connectedness, and metric spaces, and topics from analysis including Fourier series, numerical analysis, complex integration, generalizedfunctions, and Fourier and Laplace transforms. Applications from genetics, spring systems, enzyme transfer, and a thorough introduction to the classical vibrating string, heat transfer, andbrachistochrone problems illustrate this book's usefulness to the non-mathematics major. Extensiveproblem sets found throughout the book test the student's understanding of the topics andhelp develop the student's ability to handle more abstract mathematical ideas.Advanced Calculus: An Introduction to Modem Analysis is intended for junior- and senior-levelundergraduate students in mathematics, biology, engineering, physics, and other related disciplines. An excellent textbook for a one-year course in advanced calculus, the methods employed in thistext will increase students' mathematical maturity and prepare them solidly for senior/graduatelevel topics. The wealth of materials in the text allows the instructor to select topics that are ofspecial interest to the student. A two- or three ll?lester calculus sequence is required for successfuluse of this book.

Iterated Function Systems Moments And Transformations Of Infinite Matrices written by Palle E. T. Jørgensen and has been published by American Mathematical Soc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011 with Infinite matrices categories.

The authors study the moments of equilibrium measures for iterated function systems (IFSs) and draw connections to operator theory. Their main object of study is the infinite matrix which encodes all the moment data of a Borel measure on $\mathbb{R}^d$ or $\mathbb{C}$. To encode the salient features of a given IFS into precise moment data, they establish an interdependence between IFS equilibrium measures, the encoding of the sequence of moments of these measures into operators, and a new correspondence between the IFS moments and this family of operators in Hilbert space. For a given IFS, the authors' aim is to establish a functorial correspondence in such a way that the geometric transformations of the IFS turn into transformations of moment matrices, or rather transformations of the operators that are associated with them.
