El Estado español ha optado por implicarse en la evolución de los conflictos armados apostando por medidas militares, como el envío de fuerzas armadas a diversos lugares del planeta. El discurso político de las élites gobernantes y las dinámicas que rodean este nuevo escenario han ocasionando un fortalecimiento del militarismo en España. En El militarismo en España. Balance del ciclo armamentista español hasta 2007, se reflexiona sobre este fenómeno cada vez más arraigado en la sociedad española, sin que ésta se aperciba de las graves consecuencias que el militarismo ocasiona, tanto internamente como en el resto del mundo. Así, en los diferentes capítulos del volumen se analiza lo acontecido durante la última década en lo relativo a la política de defensa en un nuevo orden mundial donde, a consecuencia de los compromisos adquiridos con la OTAN y la UE, entre otros, se desarrollan costosos proyectos militares. De estos compromisos se desprenden los aspectos que rodean la economía de la defensa: presupuestos, I+D, industria militar, comercio de armas y la presencia española en ferias de armamentos internacionales, todo lo cual contribuye a la carrera de armamentos mundial. También se analizan los nuevos cometidos que se le asignan a las fuerzas armadas, en especial las denominadas intervenciones humanitarias en el exterior o la transformación que atraviesan las fuerzas armadas para conseguir los objetivos marcados para alcanzar una tropa profesional, dedicando especial atención a los graves recortes de derechos y violaciones que sufren los y las soldados en el ejercicio de su profesión.--
