Straßen(um)benennungen haben seit den 2000er-Jahren Konjunktur: Politisch inakzeptabel erscheinen in den öffentlichen Erinnerungsdebatten mittlerweile Persönlichkeiten mit Nähe zum Nationalsozialismus. In Diskussion steht jedoch auch die Frage, auf welche Weise topografische Bezeichnungen Dominanzverhältnisse und hegemoniale Erinnerungsdiskurse abbilden. Aber der in diesem Kontext geäußerte Ruf nach mehr Gendergerechtigkeit und mehr Sichtbarkeit von Frauen im öffentlichen Raum erweist sich im Zuge der gegenwärtigen Umbenennungspraktiken mitunter als paradoxes Rezept gegen politisch fragwürdige Ehrungen: Nicht wenige Wissenschafterinnen, die als akademische Pionierinnen und Wegbereiterinnen ihres Faches heute mit Straßennamen gewürdigt werden, waren auch politisch aktive Nationalsozialistinnen. An dieser anachronistisch anmutenden Praxis öffentlicher Gedächtnispolitiken setzt das vorliegende Heft an, indem es Perspektiven der Frauen- und Geschlechtergeschichte mit Biografie- und Wissenschaftsforschung verknüpft. Vorgestellt werden drei Wissenschafterinnen, nach denen zuletzt Straßen benannt wurden: Mathilde Uhlirz, Lore Kutschera und Margret Dietrich. Since the year 2000 (re)naming streets have gained momentum. Today, people who sympathized with the Nazi regime seem inacceptable in public debates on remembrance. At the same time, it is also discussed in which ways topographic names reflect dominance and hegemonic discourses on remembrance. However, the call for more gender equality and visibility of women in public may turn out to be a paradox recipe against politically questionable honours in the midst of the current renaming practices. Numerous scholars, honoured today with street names as academic pioneers and who paved the way for their discipline, were also active Nazis. The present issue focuses on this apparently anachronistic practice of public remembrance policy by combining perspectives of women and gender history with biography and science research. This issue presents three scholars after whom streets were named recently: Mathilde Uhlirz, Lore Kutschera and Margret Dietrich.

Kunst kann Unsichtbares und Unbewusstes sichtbar machen, etwa durch das Motiv des Spiegels. Umgekehrt aber verfügt sie auch über die Möglichkeit, Objekte und Menschen unsichtbar zu machen, sie aus dem Bild und damit aus unserem Bewusstsein verschwinden zu lassen. Noch immer gilt die holländische Malerei des 17. Jahrhunderts als Paradigma einer Kunst, deren Ziel eine möglichst getreue Abbildung natürlicher und gesellschaftlicher Wirklichkeit sowie die Beschreibung optischer Phänomene ist. Dass auch diese Kunst sich der beiden gegensätzlichen Visualisierungsstrategien bediente, veranschaulicht Daniela Hammer- Tugendhat in ihrem Buch.
