Freud descubrio el inconsciente, sus producciones y sus efectos en la vida del sujeto, y dedico gran parte de su obra a su estudio y a crear una forma de abordarlo y de esa manera curar los sintomas neuroticos, en cuyo origen se encontraban los procesos inconscientes. En sus comienzos el psicoanalisis era simplemente el arte de interpretar. El sintoma se le ofrecia a Freud para su desciframiento y al ser interpretado desparecia de inmediato. Sin embargo al poco tiempo, el inconsciente se fue volviendo menos docil a sus intervenciones, algo en el sintoma se mostraba inconmovible, pero Freud continuo su trabajo elaborando nuevas teorias que cambiaron su modo de abordar los casos clinicos. Los obstaculos continuaron apareciendo luego de su muerte y dieron lugar a desarrollos posteriores que permitieron ir modificando la practica del psicoanalisis. Jacques Lacan hizo una relectura de Freud a la luz de otras ciencias, como la linguistica, la antropologia, las matematicas y finalmente la topologia de la cual se sirvio para crear su clinica de los nudos, dando lugar asi a una nueva teoria sobre la cura y a una manera diferente de ejercer la practica analitica."

Why do some people still choose psychoanalysis-Freud's so-called talking cure-when numerous medications are available that treat the symptoms of psychic distress so much faster? Elisabeth Roudinesco tackles this difficult question, exploring what she sees as a "depressive society": an epidemic of distress addressed only by an increasing reliance on prescription drugs. Far from contesting the efficacy of new medications like Prozac, Zoloft, and Viagra in alleviating the symptoms of any number of mental or nervous conditions, Roudinesco argues that the use of such drugs fails to solve patients' real problems. In the man who takes Viagra without ever wondering why he is suffering from impotence and the woman who is given antidepressants to deal with the loss of a loved one, Roudinesco sees a society obsessed with efficiency and desperate for the quick fix. Symbiosis and Ambiguity is the first English edition of the classic study of early object relations by influential Argentinian psychoanalyst José Bleger (1922-1972). It is rooted in Kleinian thinking and rich in clinical material. Bleger's thesis is that starting from primitive undifferentiation, prior to the paranoid-schizoid position described by Klein, autism and symbiosis co-exist as narcissistic relations in a syncretic ‘agglutinated’ nucleus. In symbiosis part of the mind is deposited in an external person or situation; in autism it is deposited in the patient's own mind or body. The nucleus is ambiguous and persists in adults as the psychotic part of the personality. Symbiosis tends to immobilise the analytic process, so the analyst must mobilise, fragment and discriminate the agglutinated nucleus, whose ambiguity tends to ‘blunt’ persecutory situations. The psychoanalytic setting functions as a silent refuge for the psychotic part of the personality, where it creates a ‘phantom world’. At some point, therefore, the setting itself has to be analysed and the analytic relationship de-symbiotised, as Bleger observes in a celebrated chapter on the setting. José Bleger’s work demonstrates the need to analyse early narcissistic object relations as they arise clinically, especially in the setting. More widely, he regards undifferentiation and participation as operating throughout life: in groups, institutions, and society as a whole.
