After just four weeks of training, Colonel Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders--a regiment of cowboys recruited into the First U.S. Volunteer Cavalry--fought in Cuba during the Spanish-American War with the skill of seasoned regulars. The unit reflected the future president's character as a wealthy Ivy Leaguer who went west to experience frontier life. Most of the Rough Riders were seasoned cowhands from the Southwest, but Ivy League athletes, sons of millionaires and lawmen filled out the ranks. Roosevelt molded this diverse group into a cohesive, efficient fighting force and led them to victory on San Juan Hill. Told from the perspective of the men in the regiment, this book traces the history of the Rough Riders from conception to disbanding, and Roosevelt's transformation into an American hero.

This volume studies processes of creating voices of the past to analyze and to juxtapose, discussing the nature of the educational community viewed through feminist theory to reveal hidden ideas surrounding stereotypes, gender status, and power in the postcolonial era. The contributions brought together here explore the various facets of language to focus on metaphorical grammatical constructions, unique and specific with form and function. They interpret various works to capture the essence of style, as well as rhetorical function of basic structure of grammar, diction and syntax, in a literary work as message and meaning. Furthermore, the book also discusses useful pedagogical and theoretical processes used by the literary scholar concerning the power of writing for cultural change. As such, the book will appeal to those who wish to heal through writing. The proceeds of the book support the authors’ local soup kitchen and crisis centers for domestic abuse.

Run Oklahoma Run written by jack white and has been published by Lulu.com this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-02 with History categories.

Jack White's intentions were to weave a story of a strong hearted people in a Territory of Greatness. From the discovery of golden fields of tall grass in 1541 by Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado until the United States' Congress made Oklahoma the 46th state in November 1907. Moving from family to family to transport the story from one generation to the next Jack intertwined enough mystery and intrigue to make the book a page-turner. This is definitely not a historical novel filled only with boring dates and unimaginative facts. The story flows and meanders like a winding stream until President Teddy Roosevelt witnesses John Abernathy, an Oklahoman, grabbing angry Lobo wolves with his bare hands. Jack White's goal from the first word typed was to put on paper a record of the history of the most interesting Territory in the greater United States. "Run Oklahoma Run" is a book you will pass down to your great grandchildren.

Recent research has called into question the orthodox view that the last two centuries of the Roman Republic witnessed a decline of the free rural population. Yet the implications of the alternative reconstructions of Italy's demographic history that have been proposed have never been explored systematically. This volume offers a series of in-depth discussions not only of the republican manpower and census figures but also of the abundant archaeological data. It also explores the growth of cities, especially Rome, and the changing distribution of the population over the Italian landscape. On the rural side it addresses the interplay between demographic, economic, and legal developments and the background to the Gracchan land reforms. Finally it examines the political implications of demographic growth and large-scale migration to the provinces. The volume as a whole demonstrates that demography is the key to many aspects of Italy's economic, social, military, and political history.
