A journey from faith via evidence. Why a university professor gave up religion and became an unbeliever. Rob J Hyndman is Professor of Statistics at Monash University, Australia. He was a Christadelphian for nearly 30 years, and was well-known as a writer and Bible teacher within the Christadelphian community. He gave up Christianity when he no longer thought that there was sufficient evidence to support belief in the Bible. This is a personal memoir describing Rob's journey of deconversion. Until recently, he was regularly speaking at church conferences internationally, and his books are still used in Bible classes and Sunday Schools around the world. He even helped establish an innovative new church, which became a model for similar churches in other countries. Eventually he came to the view that he was mistaken, and that there was little or no evidence that the Bible was inspired or that God exists. In this book, he reflects on how he was fooled, and why he changed his mind. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, you will be led to reflect on the nature of faith and evidence, and how they interact.

Christians face a tough task. In a world without consensus, all truth claims are regarded dubiously. The Gospel does not change, but what aspects should be highlighted in our rapidly changing culture? How do we speak 'into' the culture, instead of just mirroring that culture? Malcolm Duncan constructs his case around the core statements of the Apostles' Creed. If we believe in as God as Creator, what does that mean about our treatment of His creation? If we accept Christ as Saviour and Lord, in what sense are we rescued, redeemed, remade? If we accept the Holy Spirit as Guide, where are we going and what are we here for? We face an unbelievable task: playing our part in the world's regeneration. But God has confidence in us. If we can be confident of what He has done for us, then we can also be confident of what He wants to do through us.

Conversations matter. Yet, recently, good conversations about faith have been increasingly squeezed out of the public sphere. Seeking to reopen the debate, Justin Brierley began to invite atheists and sceptics on to Premier Christian Radio to air arguments for and against the Christian faith. But how has ten years of discussion with atheists affected the presenter’s faith? Reflecting on conversations with Richard Dawkins, Derren Brown and many more, Justin explains why he still finds Christianity the most compelling explanation for life, the universe and everything. And why, regardless of belief or background, we should all welcome the conversation. ‘Beautifully written, brilliantly argued, Justin’s book will thrill Christians and challenge atheists.’ R. T. Kendall, author and pastor ‘Justin has that happy knack of being able to get people of diametrically opposed opinions debating the big issues.’ John Lennox, Professor of Mathematics, University of Oxford

When Faith Fails written by Dominic Done and has been published by Thomas Nelson this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-19 with Religion categories.

Wrestling with doubt can be profoundly lonely, but Portland pastor Dominic Done offers a safe place to openly wrestle with your faith without being criticized or judged. Writing with humor and candor out of his own experiences, and incorporating Scripture, literature, and accounts of others who have doubted, Dominic Done argues that not only is questioning normal, it is often a path toward a rich and vibrant faith. Rather than viewing trust and doubt as incompatible, When Faith Fails provides readers with a way to wrestle and ask questions while growing ever closer to God. No subject is off-limits, and Dominic fearlessly and graciously addresses topics including: the experience of tragedy the difficult parts of the Bible the intersection of science and faith the times when God is silent By walking in the path that many others have trod, you can move through doubt into a deeper, fuller faith—a faith that doesn’t run from questions and the hard work of honest wrestling but instead embraces the mysteries of belief. "This book is for those of us who have experienced a gut check, or two, when it comes to some of the intersections between our lives and our faith. It’s for those of us who no longer want to add unnecessary explanations to our beliefs just because we can’t fully see what God is doing in our lives." —Bob Goff, New York Times bestselling author of Everybody, Always “This book is one of those books that I will be buying to give to multiple friends.” —Jefferson Bethke, New York Times bestselling author of Jesus > Religion “This book will help you surrender and trust the areas of your life that are meant to exude God-designed mystery, while also holding your hand as you search for substance and truth.” —Audrey Roloff, coauthor of A Love Letter Life, founder of Always More, and cofounder of Beating50Percent “Doubt is such a pertinent issue in this cultural moment. Dominic walks us through the issues of doubt with which we wrestle but he does so in pastoral practicality. One feels as though you are seated in his living room sipping coffee. Dominic is the type of soul who understands the questions of the heart. He never shames. He’s always transparent. He gives substantive hope.” —Emerson Eggerichs, PhD, New York Times bestselling author of Love & Respect

Fate can be cruel. Luna DeLuca has lost everything except for her faith in herself. Kidnapped, tortured and threatened by a male that's already killed half her family, she knows the only way to save the other half is by offering herself up to him. To save her sisters, she's willing to do anything, even accept a claim from a male that isn't her mate, a mark on her soul that will ruin her forever. But if this is what her family needs, what her pack needs, she'll do it to save them all. Fate can be twisted. Michael Hudson thought his mission to save the neighboring Crescent pack was about helping out a friend. He thought it was about avenging an attack on his own. But the second he sets his eyes on the beautiful girl locked away in a dank basement he knows she's why he was put on the face of this planet. She's the reason he's here. She's everything. She's his. His mate. His fate. His future. Only, she bears the scent of another and is nothing like what he imagined his fated mate to be. But fate can also be kind. As brave as she is, Luna's wolf is submissive and submissive wolves aren't meant to lead packs. They aren't meant to be Queens. She knows that. So does Michael. But when he refuses to give up on her, refuses to walk away or back down, she begins to see why fate put them together. She softens him and he strengthens her and maybe, just maybe, if they believe in fate enough they can find their way to forever.

Unbelievable written by John Shelby Spong and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-13 with Religion categories.

Five hundred years after Martin Luther and his Ninety-Five Theses ushered in the Reformation, bestselling author and controversial bishop and teacher John Shelby Spong delivers twelve forward-thinking theses to spark a new reformation to reinvigorate Christianity and ensure its future. At the beginning of the sixteenth century, Christianity was in crisis—a state of conflict that gave birth to the Reformation in 1517. Enduring for more than 200 years, Luther’s movement was then followed by a "revolutionary time of human knowledge." Yet these advances in our thinking had little impact on Christians’ adherence to doctrine—which has led the faith to a critical point once again. Bible scholar and Episcopal bishop John Shelby Spong contends that there is mounting pressure among Christians for a radically new kind of Christianity—a faith deeply connected to the human experience instead of outdated dogma. To keep Christianity vital, he urges modern Christians to update their faith in light of these advances in our knowledge, and to challenge the rigid and problematic Church teachings that emerged with the Reformation. There is a disconnect, he argues, between the language of traditional worship and the language of the twenty-first century. Bridging this divide requires us to rethink and reformulate our basic understanding of God. With its revolutionary resistance to the authority of the Church in the sixteenth century, Spong sees in Luther’s movement a model for today’s discontented Christians. In fact, the questions they raise resonate with those contemplated by our ancestors. Does the idea of God still have meaning? Can we still follow historic creeds with integrity? Are not such claims as an infallible Pope or an inerrant Bible ridiculous in today’s world? In Unbelievable, Spong outlines twelve "theses" to help today’s believers more deeply contemplate and reshape their faith. As an educator, clergyman, and writer who has devoted his life to his faith, Spong has enlightened Christians and challenged them to explore their beliefs in new and meaningful ways. In this, his final book, he continues that rigorous tradition, once again offering a revisionist approach that strengthens Christianity and secures its relevance for generations to come.

Taught to Believe the Unbelievable tells the story of how Sister Jane Kelly contested Church leaders' efforts to shield the sexual and fiscal misconduct of its priests. Rather than collude in the cover-up, she went to the press, at great risk to her reputation and her relationship to the Church she had served for fifty-five years. When newspaper headlines at last broke the news, Sister Jane's role in her community was changed forever. Sister Jane's courageous actions, recounted here, reveal how this crisis of faith ultimately became an opportunity to revitalize the Church's most fundamental spiritual teachings. In Taught to Believe the Unbelievable, her amazing story reminds every reader, regardless of their faith, that the call of one's own heart and conscience supersedes all externally imposed authority.
