The last few centuries have seen increasingly rapid rate of human achievements shaping our civilization. Scientific inventions and discoveries in the fields of information technology, transportation and war weaponry have greatly changed our lives. While our philosophical concepts tended to settle on universally accepted doctrines such as majority rule and democracy in politics and justice, equality and freedom in society, perceptible changes have occurred in recent decades. Unfortunately, every desirable aspect of amelioration of our civilization carries with it a hidden pitfall. We still rightly follow the majority thinking as norm, but there are also unconventional views to ponder.

An Unconventional View written by Linsey Savage and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This book is about my many experiences as an African American male with unconventional philosophies. There are a few reasons why I decided to write this book; for one, my motivation as an African American male struggling to make a pleasant and peaceful life for myself in America is to help continue to dispel the negative stereotypes that so many people still have of people with preferences similar to mine, and to confirm some of the realities, as I know them through my personal experiences, many of which were very difficult to endure. In this book, I reveal my personal enlightenment and growth in God and my spirituality, and how I grew and evolved to a higher level of self-consciousness that has enabled me to deal with any difficulties and prejudices I may encounter. I want to encourage those who are mentally and spiritually experiencing difficulties with their inner feelings as well as with the teachings of the theologies of the many religions and philosophies existing in our world today, that doom people to Hell, philosophically and theologically, for having desires to express feelings of sexuality and love that are unconventional.

Gender scholarship during the last four decades has shown that the exclusion of women's voices and perspectives has diminished academic disciplines in important ways. Traditional scholarship in philosophy is no different. The 'recovery project' in philosophy is engaged in re-discovering the names, lives, texts, and perspectives of women philosophers from the 6th Century BCE to the present. Karen Warren brings together 16 colleagues for a unique, groundbreaking study of Western philosophy which combines pairs of leading men and women philosophers over the past 2600 years, acknowledging and evaluating their contributions to foundational themes in philosophy, including epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics. Introductory essays, primary source readings, and commentaries comprise each chapter to offer a rich and accessible introduction to and evaluation of these vital philosophical contributions. A helpful appendix canvasses an extraordinary number of women philosophers for further discovery and study.

A Different Point Of View written by Misao Dean and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1991 with Literary Criticism categories.

Misao Dean argues convincingly that Duncan's "point of view" was largely informed by nineteenth-century Canadian idealism. Making excellent use of the latest insights of feminist criticism and post-colonial literary theory, Dean explores the "double marginalisation" of Duncan as both a colonial and a woman. She establishes gender as an important element in the form and content of Duncan's novels and feminism as a significant influence on Duncan's point of view.

Chaos And Order In The World Of The Psyche written by Joanne Wieland-Burston and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1992 with Psychology categories.

Chaos can enter our lives in many different ways--through death, divorce or conflict--with friends and family, or at work. Joanne Wieland-Burston, through her work as a Jungian analyst, is no stranger to chaos, and frequently acts as companion, support and guide to those whose lives are in turmoil. Chaos and Order in the World of the Psycheshows that the experience of chaos is generally both negative and frightening, destabilizing the individual and provoking feelings of insecurity. People, therefore, often seek to deny and avoid chaos--but chaos that is blocked off does not disappear. It manifests itself in depression, fear, anxiety and various physical symptoms, often making us incapable of performing the simplest daily tasks. The author describes how she helps people to meet the chaos, to accept and see it as the starting-point for a new order in their lives. This "organic order" is better suited to their needs and personality, and provides them with the basis to come through their chaos and to lead fuller, happier and more satisfying lives. Wieland-Burston explores the modern attitude to chaos, showing how we shun and deny it while at the same time overestimating the importance of orderliness. Contemporary western society has no tools to deal with chaos, unlike "primitive" cultures, whose myths, tales and rites reveal a deep commitment to developing and transmitting to future generations models of chaos confrontation. Chaos and Order in the World of the Psychedraws upon these ancient cultures and upon modern scientific findings of chaos theory to show how we can regain the wisdom we once possessed and have now lost.

Difference In View Women And Modernism written by Gabriele Griffin and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-09-02 with Social Science categories.

This collection of essays challenges conceptions of "high" modernism, its preoccupation with style at the expense of issues such as race, class and gender, and its exclusive focus both on predominately male writers, poetry and prose fiction by highlighting the diversity of cultural production in the modernist period. This book focusses specifically on women's cultural production, covering a wide range of arts and genres including chapters on painting, theatre, and magazines. The book investigates how women usually constructed as "others", themselves construct others in their work in a period prominently concerned with the construction of self as an issue. This diversity offers a new format of reading modernism in a cross-disciplinary context.

WINNER OF THE NOBEL PRIZE© IN LITERATURE 2013 A New York Times Notable Book A Washington Post Notable Work of Fiction A Best Book of the Year: The Atlantic, NPR, San Francisco Chronicle, Vogue, AV Club In story after story in this brilliant new collection, Alice Munro pinpoints the moment a person is forever altered by a chance encounter, an action not taken, or a simple twist of fate. Her characters are flawed and fully human: a soldier returning from war and avoiding his fiancée, a wealthy woman deciding whether to confront a blackmailer, an adulterous mother and her neglected children, a guilt-ridden father, a young teacher jilted by her employer. Illumined by Munro’s unflinching insight, these lives draw us in with their quiet depth and surprise us with unexpected turns. And while most are set in her signature territory around Lake Huron, some strike even closer to home: an astonishing suite of four autobiographical tales offers an unprecedented glimpse into Munro’s own childhood. Exalted by her clarity of vision and her unparalleled gift for storytelling, Dear Life shows how strange, perilous, and extraordinary ordinary life can be.
