An Unconventional View written by Linsey Savage and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

This book is about my many experiences as an African American male with unconventional philosophies. There are a few reasons why I decided to write this book; for one, my motivation as an African American male struggling to make a pleasant and peaceful life for myself in America is to help continue to dispel the negative stereotypes that so many people still have of people with preferences similar to mine, and to confirm some of the realities, as I know them through my personal experiences, many of which were very difficult to endure. In this book, I reveal my personal enlightenment and growth in God and my spirituality, and how I grew and evolved to a higher level of self-consciousness that has enabled me to deal with any difficulties and prejudices I may encounter. I want to encourage those who are mentally and spiritually experiencing difficulties with their inner feelings as well as with the teachings of the theologies of the many religions and philosophies existing in our world today, that doom people to Hell, philosophically and theologically, for having desires to express feelings of sexuality and love that are unconventional.

One important means to understanding normal cognitive functions is the study of the breakdown of these functions following brain damage. This book provides reviews of major case studies dealing with the breakdown of visual perception and recognition, including the disorders of motion vision, colour vision, perceptual integration, perceptual classification, recognition of particular categories of object, semantic access from vision (in optic aphasia), and recognition impairments with relative sparing of imagery. The cases are discussed in the light of studies that have followed since, and the chapters provide a context in which the contributions of the case studies can be evaluated.

Vision written by David Marr and has been published by MIT Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-09 with Psychology categories.

Available again, an influential book that offers a framework for understanding visual perception and considers fundamental questions about the brain and its functions. David Marr's posthumously published Vision (1982) influenced a generation of brain and cognitive scientists, inspiring many to enter the field. In Vision, Marr describes a general framework for understanding visual perception and touches on broader questions about how the brain and its functions can be studied and understood. Researchers from a range of brain and cognitive sciences have long valued Marr's creativity, intellectual power, and ability to integrate insights and data from neuroscience, psychology, and computation. This MIT Press edition makes Marr's influential work available to a new generation of students and scientists. In Marr's framework, the process of vision constructs a set of representations, starting from a description of the input image and culminating with a description of three-dimensional objects in the surrounding environment. A central theme, and one that has had far-reaching influence in both neuroscience and cognitive science, is the notion of different levels of analysis—in Marr's framework, the computational level, the algorithmic level, and the hardware implementation level. Now, thirty years later, the main problems that occupied Marr remain fundamental open problems in the study of perception. Vision provides inspiration for the continuing efforts to integrate knowledge from cognition and computation to understand vision and the brain.

A controversial and persuasive analysis of addiction A tour de force, a spectacular effort of research andunderstanding. This book gives us the courage to bypass diseasenotions to deal with intrapsychic, family system, and social andcultural dynamics in addiction. ?David Cook, Counseling and Psychological Services, University ofWisconsin This compelling and controversial book challenges the widelyaccepted belief that alcohol and drug addiction have a genetic orbiological basis. The so-called disease theory suggests that a substance or activity can cause the addict to losecontrol of his behavior. Stanton Peele demonstrates how this notionfails to make sense of scientific observations. Analyzing studies of drug and cigarette addiction, alcoholism, obesity, and other potential compulsions such as running and sex,Peele reveals the surprising frequency of self-cure as part of theevidence. The author finds that compulsive habits and depAndencyare a way of coping that individuals can reverse as their lifecircumstances change. This brilliantly argued book is sure toprovoke discussion and stimulate new approaches to treatment.

Plato's arguments are developed through complex exchanges between literary characters. Consequently, it is questionable that theses can be attributed to the author himself. Wolfsdorf has it that the answer to this dilema lies in transcending the divide and integrating the literary and philosophical dimensions of the texts.
