A few clear factors are associated with living longer and healthier — such as higher levels of physical activity, good sleep patterns and proper nutrition. However, despite all the advances that have been made to increase the general population's physical activity, improve their sleep patterns, and boost their nutritional habits, there is still a lot to be done. This Research Topic aims to address the topic of healthy ageing and will consider manuscripts focused on the effects of improving these factors in all ages, from childhood to old age. We are mainly interested in questions of broader interventions at the individual (home settings), group (school, work, and gerontology settings), and societal level (community/based settings). We also welcome papers investigating the short- and long-term effects of environmental factors on physical changes in children, working and old age populations and their development. Correlational and survey studies examining the issues mentioned above are welcome.

Cognitive frailty (CF) is an age-related condition characterized by the comorbidity of physical frailty and cognitive impairment. This includes reduced cognitive function due to physical and brain diseases, as well as accelerated brain aging in the absence of manifest brain diseases like dementia. CF in associated with a high risk of adverse events such as dementia, the need for nursing care, hospitalization, disability, and death. It is important to note that CF is reversible and adverse events can be prevented with early detection and intervention. Therefore, research on CF has increased rapidly in various fields in recent years. This Research Topic aims to elucidate the latest advances in the field of basic and clinical research on CF. Specifically, we will focus on areas such as epidemiology, mechanisms, biomarkers, and interventions.

Societies around the world are concerned about dementia and the other forms of cognitive impairment that affect many older adults. We now know that brain changes typically begin years before people show symptoms, which suggests a window of opportunity to prevent or delay the onset of these conditions. Emerging evidence that the prevalence of dementia is declining in high-income countries offers hope that public health interventions will be effective in preventing or delaying cognitive impairments. Until recently, the research and clinical communities have focused primarily on understanding and treating these conditions after they have developed. Thus, the evidence base on how to prevent or delay these conditions has been limited at best, despite the many claims of success made in popular media and advertising. Today, however, a growing body of prevention research is emerging. Preventing Cognitive Decline and Dementia: A Way Forward assesses the current state of knowledge on interventions to prevent cognitive decline and dementia, and informs future research in this area. This report provides recommendations of appropriate content for inclusion in public health messages from the National Institute on Aging.

Drug Discovery And Antiaging Approaches For Human Longevity written by Chen, Jen-Tsung and has been published by IGI Global this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-23 with Medical categories.

For years, antiaging biology and genetics have been advanced through approaches of molecular biology, particularly the technologies of high-throughput multiple omics, AI- and accelerated-computational biology, and RNA-based tools, such as epigenetic regulation and CRISPR technology. It has led to dramatic progress in drug discovery and the development of antiaging medicines and medical strategies. The field of research on lifespan-extending agents and their underlying molecular mechanisms remains minimal. Traditional herbal medicines, natural compounds, antioxidants, metabolites, kinase inhibitors, nuclear hormone receptors, and G protein-coupled receptor ligands, present promising medical strategies for antiaging involving CRISPR-based therapy, gene therapy, stem-cell therapy, and epigenetic drugs. Further research into ethical and social issues may reveal effective strategies for antiaging medicines in medical practice. Drug Discovery and Antiaging Approaches for Human Longevity explores antiaging biology and technical advancements in drug development for extending the human lifespan. It discusses the progress of clinical trials and ethical and social issues in antiaging medicines. This book covers topics such as genetics, human lifespan, and natural medicine, and is a useful resource for medical professionals, engineers, biologists, nutritionists, academicians, researchers, and scientists.

Geriatric Physical Therapy offers a comprehensive presentation of geriatric physical therapy science and practice. Thoroughly revised and updated, editors Andrew Guccione, Rita Wong, and Dale Avers and their contributors provide current information on aging-related changes in function, the impact of these changes on patient examination and evaluation, and intervention approaches that maximize optimal aging. Chapters emphasize evidence-based content that clinicians can use throughout the patient management process. Six new chapters include: Exercise Prescription, Older Adults and Their Families, Impaired Joint Mobility, Impaired Motor Control, Home-based Service Delivery, and Hospice and End of Life. Clinically accurate and relevant while at the same time exploring theory and rationale for evidence-based practice, it’s perfect for students and practicing clinicians. It’s also an excellent study aid for the Geriatric Physical Therapy Specialization exam. Comprehensive coverage provides all the foundational knowledge needed for effective management of geriatric disorders. Content is written and reviewed by leading experts in the field to ensure information is authoritative, comprehensive, current, and clinically accurate. A highly readable writing style and consistent organization make it easy to understand difficult concepts. A well-referenced and scientific approach provides the depth to understand processes and procedures. Theory mixed with real case examples show how concepts apply to practice and help you enhance clinical decision-making skills. Standard APTA terminology familiarizes you with terms used in practice. A new chapter, Exercise Prescription, highlights evidence-based exercise prescription and the role of physical activity and exercise on the aging process. A new chapter, Older Adults and Their Families, helps physical therapists understand the role spouses/partners and adult children can play in rehabilitation, from providing emotional support to assisting with exercise programs and other daily living activities. New chapters on Impaired Joint Mobility, Impaired Motor Control, Home-based Service Delivery, and Hospice and End of Life expand coverage of established and emerging topics in physical therapy. Incorporates two conceptual models: the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, 2nd Edition, and the International Classification of Function, Disability, and Health (ICF) of the World Health Organization (WHO) with an emphasis on enabling function and enhancing participation rather than concentrating on dysfunction and disability A companion Evolve website includes all references linked to MEDLINE as well as helpful links to other relevant websites.
