In the present book entitled Unity in the Diversity of Different Religions, with the help of specific quotes and many true or mythical stories, the author illustrates that even though religions of the world may appear very different from one another in their rituals or ways of worship, at their core, they all teach us to be good human beings. They all teach us to practice virtues (like love, compassion, and forgiveness) and to forsake sinful tendencies (like lust, anger, greed, and ego). The author hopes that the readers would enjoy these quotes and stories and find that beside their own religion, other religions also have good things to tell, which we need to share with our friends, particularly young children, so that this world may eventually become like heaven on earth, where people of all faiths are blossoming and spreading their beauty and fragrance for all to enjoy. This text offers an alternative to the case-driven approach that the sole use of a reader tends to foster. It provides students with ways of conceptualizing what religion is, what its social and psychological functions are, the nature of religious symbolism and religious behaviour, and the organizational structure of religions. All the standard topics are covered (e.g., ideology and symbolism, ritual and ceremony, organizational forms, and social and psychological functions of religion) as well as ones of more recent interest such as religion and gender, the psychology of religion, and pilgrimage. - Extended narrative examples illustrate the theoretical and analytic discussions in the text, expose students to a variety of different religions, and provide real-world examples of the concepts of each chapter. - An integrated student study guide (self-test materials) at the end of each chapter allows students to evaluate their own mastery of each chapter, determine what they need to review further, and prepare for course tests. - The text is copiously illustrated with ethnographic examples from both western and non-western religions.

Unity in the Diversity of Different Religions uses quotes and stories to demonstrate that even though religions of the world appear different, yet at their core they teach us all to be good human beings. They teach us to practice virtues such as love, compassion, forgiveness, generosity, etc. and, we are to forsake negative attributes. The author hopes this book will help advance interfaith understanding. "Daljit Singh Jawa has given us work in his lifelong pursuit of the underlying unity of religions amidst their manifold diversity. The stories and anecdotes gathered here can be read with delight and benefit by all those wishing to join his quest to discover enduring truths which have inspired the world's faiths--and faithful- throughout history." - Barry S. Crawford, Professor of Religious Studies, Emeritus, Washburn University. "Unity In Diversity Of Different Religions, is unusual and valuable as it compares the teachings of Sikhism and Bahá'í with other world religions often outside of Western religious studies. This is a welcome and important ground-breaking work in interfaith and comparative religious studies." - Dr. Chris Hamilton, Professor of World Religions and Political Science, Washburn University. "Daljit Jawa's book, Unity In Diversity, is a delightful change from the Western-oriented inter-faith books we are more familiar with. In his book we learn from the Sikh, Buddhist and Hindu traditions which are less well-known in the West. Thank you, Daljit for sharing." - Duane L. Herrmann, former President: Interfaith of Topeka.

The religious landscape in Asia has long been diverse, with various forms of syncretic traditions and pragmatic practices continuously having been challenged by centrifugal forces of differentiation. This anthology explores representations and managements of religious diversity in Japan, China, South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and diaspora religions originating in these countries, seen through the lenses of history, identity, state, ritual and geography. In addition to presenting empirical cases, the chapters also address theoretical and methodological reflections using Asia as a laboratory for further comparative research of the relevance and use of 'religious diversity'. Contributors are: Donald Baker, Ugo Dessi, Chung Van Hoang, Ayelet Harel-Shalev, Noa Levy, Gideon Elazar, Santosh K. Singh, Yu Tao, Ed Griffith, Satoko Fujiwara, Uwe Skoda, Tudor Silva, Martin Tsang, Marianne Q. Fibiger, Jørn Borup, and Lene Kühle. Religious Diversity in Asia was made possible by a framework grant from the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation allowing the grant holder (Jørn Borup) and two colleagues (Marianne Q. Fibiger and Lene Kühle) to host a workshop at Aarhus University and to co-arrange workshops in Delhi and Nagoya. We would like to thank professors Arshad Alam and Michiaki Okuyama for hosting these latter workshops at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Nanzan University, and we would like to thank Professor Chong-Suh Kim for the invitation for Jørn Borup to visit Seoul National University. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all the scholars who participated in the workshops and to all the authors we subsequently invited to contribute to our endeavor to create this academically relevant volume.

One Christ Many Religions written by S. J. Samartha and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-29 with Religion categories.

Here is a wise, radical, and illuminating book on the obstacles that a rigid interpretation of orthodox christological doctrines presents to dialogue with persons of other faiths. One Christ--Many Religions examines religious pluralism today and, in the light of its implications for the global community, suggests the contours of a revised christology more credible to Christians and their neighbors of other faiths. Samartha argues that the problem with the christological dogmas of the first Ecumenical Councils is not their truth so much as their interpretation, and the un-Christian zealotry they seem to engender in Christians. Sensitive to charges of sentiments of racial and cultural superiority that stem from Christians believing themselves uniquely authorized agents of God, Samartha challenges us to admit the truth of these accusations, and to revise our understanding of Jesus. Without such christological revisions, Samartha fears, Christianity may cease to be Christian, may become enfeebled in the pursuit of justice for the oppressed, alienated from the deeper challenge of Jesus, sealed off from the truths of other religions, and, ultimately, may be barred from experiencing the rich and mysterious encounter of God.

* Gives an account of the history, the theological basis, the practice and the current state of the study of religion and religions throughout the world * Combines a clear and non-technical style of presentation with a structure and range of contributions which reflect the richness and complexity of religion itself, of the religions of the world and the study of religions * Comprehensive index, bibliographies and suggestions for further reading `Intriguing philosophical questions are raised about the nature of religion and the qualities needed for studying it.' - Times Higher Education Supplement `Excellent book ... remarkably successful, impressive as much for the sheer scale of the undertaking as for its consistent standard of analysis.
