This book presents a complete human-centered design process (ISO 9241:210) that had two goals: to design universal, intuitive, and permanent pictograms and to develop a process for designing suitable pictograms. The book analyzes characteristics of visual representations, grounded in semiotics. It develops requirements for pictogram contents, relying on embodied cognition, and it derives content candidates in empirical studies on four continents. The book suggests that visual perception is universal, intuitive, and permanent. Consequently, it derives guidelines for content design from visual perception. Subsequently, pictogram prototypes are produced in a research through design process, using the guidelines and the content candidates. Evaluation studies suggest that the prototypes are a success. They are more suitable than established pictograms and they should be considered universal, intuitive, and permanent. In conclusion, a technical design process is proposed.

Gateway To The Heavens How Geometric Shapes Patterns And Symbols Form Our Reality written by Karen L. French and has been published by Duncan Baird Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-10 with Body, Mind & Spirit categories.

Simple geometric shapes and symbols combine to make the universal, powerful and sacred model Karen French calls the Gateway to the Heavens. In this book, French explains the meaning and purpose of these shapes, how they mould our reality and perception of it, and how they have a direct bearing on what you are and why you are here. These shapes and symbols contain messages that have been consistently represented in religion, philosophy, mythology, mysticism, the arts and sciences. Their messages are built into our genetic make-up and we recognise them instinctively. The book is divided up into three parts. Part 1 covers the properties of the basic geometric shapes and numbers. Part 2 describes how these in turn form layers of construction, creating principals that are fundamental to the purpose of the universe. The spiral sustains reality, the cross highlighting the central point of existence and the Heart where we weigh up our choices. Part 3 describes how we can use these principles to create positive change in our lives by helping us to expand our awareness of reality.

Hegel And Phenomenology written by Alfredo Ferrarin and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-24 with Philosophy categories.

This volume articulates and develops new research questions and original insights regarding the philosophical dialogue between Hegel’s philosophy, his heritage, and contemporary phenomenology, including, among others, Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, and Ricoeur. The collection discusses methodological questions concerning the relevance of Hegel’s philosophy for contemporary phenomenology, addressing core issues revolving around the key concepts of history, being, science, subjectivity, and dialectic. The volume fills a gap in historiography, expanding the knowledge of the impact of Hegel's philosophy on contemporary philosophy and raising new questions on the transformation of transcendental philosophy in post-Kantian philosophy. The contributions gathered in this volume shed new light on issues related to the problem of scientific method in philosophy, on the philosophy of history, as well as on the dimension of subjectivity. By providing critical insights into Hegel’s philosophy and contemporary phenomenology, the book opens up new research perspectives recommended to philosophers and scholars of different traditions, especially classical German philosophy, phenomenology, and history of Western philosophy.

Coleridge And Contemplation written by Peter Cheyne and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Literary Collections categories.

Coleridge and Contemplation is a multi-disciplinary volume on Samuel Taylor Coleridge, founding poet of British Romanticism, critic, and author of philosophical, political, and theological works. In his philosophical writings, Coleridge developed his thinking about the symbolizing imagination, a precursor to contemplation, into a theory of contemplation itself, which for him occurs in its purest form as a manifestation of 'Reason'. Coleridge is a particularly challenging figure because he was a thinker in process, and something of an omnimath, a Renaissance man of the Romantic era. The dynamic quality of his thinking, the 'dark fluxion' pursued but ultimately 'unfixable by thought', and his extensive range of interests make a philosophical yet also multi-disciplinary approach to Coleridge essential. This book is the first collection to feature philosophers and intellectual historians writing on Coleridge's philosophy. This volume opens up a neglected aspect of the work of Britain's greatest philosopher-poet--his analysis of contemplation, which he considered the highest of human mental powers. Philosophers including Roger Scruton, David E. Cooper, Michael McGhee, Andy Hamilton, and Peter Cheyne contribute original essays on the philosophical, literary, and political implications of Coleridge's views. The volume is edited and introduced by Peter Cheyne, and Baroness Mary Warnock contributes a foreword. The chapters by philosophers are supported by new developments in philosophically minded criticism from leading Coleridge scholars in English departments, including Jim Mays, Kathleen Wheeler, and James Engell. They approach Coleridge as an energetic yet contemplative thinker concerned with the intuition of ideas and the processes of cultivation in self and society. Other chapters, from intellectual historians and theologians, including Douglas Hedley, clarify the historical background, and 'religious musings', of Coleridge's thought regarding contemplation.

domesticating symbols looks at the entropic dissolution of symbolic structures we are experiencing today and explores various approaches towards learning to create code. Photovoltaics and its capacity to capture energy by coding instead of exploitation of resources, and of integrating in additional or surplus quantities of energy into the ecosphere of the planet‘s natural balance is the central focus of this publication. Energythereby also encompasses the genuinely abstract format of electricity, which makes it possible to convert any form of energy into any other form. This is the second volume of the Applied Virtuality book series based on the Metalithicum Conferences by the Laboratory of Applied Virtuality at the Chair for Computer Aided Architectural Design, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich.
