O presente livro tem o objetivo de analisar como a Amazônia é trabalhada na dinâmica curricular do bacharelado de Relações Internacionais da Universidade Federal de Roraima (UFRR), de modo que esse intento se desdobra nos seguintes objetivos específicos: 1). Averiguar os pressupostos da teoria histórico-crítica no ensino superior e no currículo; 2). Conhecer as concepções de ensino superior no mundo e no Brasil, bem como a inserção do curso de Relações Internacionais na Amazônia; e 3). Elucidar a dinâmica curricular do curso de Relações Internacionais da UFRR, por meio dos temas amazônicos presentes no ensino, na pesquisa e na extensão. O aporte teórico-metodológico da pesquisa ancorou-se na teoria histórico-crítica e de sua consequente teoria curricular, além dos estudos da formação em Relações Internacionais, bem como autores que debatem a Amazônia brasileira. Em termos metodológicos recorremos a fontes documentais e primárias, dentre os documentos analisados encontram-se as Diretrizes Curriculares Nacionais (DCNs) do Bacharelado de Relações Internacionais, o Plano de Desenvolvimento Institucional (PDI) da UFRR e o Projeto Pedagógico do Curso (PPC), além da extração de informações do site do curso a respeito dos trabalhos monográficos e dos projetos de extensão vigentes; para a coleta dos dados primários foram realizadas três entrevistas, sendo uma com o coordenador do curso e duas com docentes que já haviam ministrado disciplinas obrigatórias diretamente relacionadas à Amazônia. Também foi realizado um Grupo de Discussão com os discentes concluintes no ano de 2019. Dentre os resultados destacamos que o curso de Relações Internacionais da Universidade Federal de Roraima (UFRR), no âmbito do ensino, realiza uma interlocução direta sobre Amazônia expressa em três disciplinas que abordam a interação entre Amazônia e Relações Internacionais, bem como indiretamente esse conteúdo também é trabalhado em outras disciplinas no decorrer do curso. A partir dos trabalhos monográficos defendidos, na esfera da pesquisa, sobressaem os temas de migração, refúgio e deslocamento. Por sua vez, a maioria dos projetos de extensão relaciona-se à crise humanitária decorrente da migração venezuelana. Conclui-se por meio da análise da dinâmica curricular que apesar dos esforços individuais dos docentes do curso no ensino, na pesquisa e na extensão, não existe um trabalho organizado coletivamente e subsidiado em um diagnóstico prévio das necessidades locais a fim de priorizar os conteúdos e as respostas à sociedade roraimense e amazônica. No entanto, gostaríamos de ressaltar que tais dificuldades não dependem apenas da vontade política dos docentes e discentes em tornar o curso um polo de referência no saber sobre a Amazônia brasileira no âmbito da área de relações internacionais, pois existem dificuldades estruturais que a universidade pública atravessa, seja pelas estratégias de deslegitimação social ou pela redução constante do financiamento perpetrada pelo novo regime fiscal desde 2016.

Amazonia exists in our imagination as well as on the ground. It is a mysterious and powerful construct in our psyches yet shares multiple (trans)national borders and diverse ecological and cultural landscapes. It is often presented as a seemingly homogeneous place: a lush tropical jungle teeming with exotic wildlife and plant diversity, as well as the various indigenous populations that inhabit the region. Yet, since Conquest, Amazonia has been linked to the global market and, after a long and varied history of colonization and development projects, Amazonia is peopled by many distinct cultural groups who remain largely invisible to the outside world despite their increasing integration into global markets and global politics. Millions of rubber tappers, neo-native groups, peasants, river dwellers, and urban residents continue to shape and re-shape the cultural landscape as they adapt their livelihood practices and political strategies in response to changing markets and shifting linkages with political and economic actors at local, regional, national, and international levels. This book explores the diversity of changing identities and cultural landscapes emerging in different corners of this rapidly changing region. This book was published as a special issue of the Journal of Cultural Geography.
