Five case studies were conducted to collect empirical evidence on innovative mechanisms through which universities worldwide manage their relations with industry. Cases were selected from institutions of higher education in Israel, Papua New Guinea, Turkey, Brazil, and Uganda. These studies were selected for their innovative approaches, but also because they represent a wide range of development contexts. Taken together, the studies confirm the hypothesis that relations with industry have developed considerably over the past decade in all analyzed institutions. The scope of such relations is widening to embrace new types of linkages and new modalities for their implementation. The studies illustrate the variety of options that institutions have with regard to policy-making and organizational development. Chapters of this book are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "YISSUM, the Interface for University-Industry Partnerships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel" (Moshe Vigdor); (3) "The Management of University-Industry Relations in Papua New Guinea" (M. A. Satter and J. Pumwa); (4) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: Experiences of Bogazici University, Turkey" (Okyay Kaynak); (5) "The Management of University-Industry Relations: The Case of the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil" (Guilherme Ary Plonski); and (6) "The Management of University-Industry Relations at Makerere University, Uganda" (Avitus Tibarimbasa and Eriabu Logujjo). University-industry interaction combines several layers of actors, states and effects. People make choices, based on their individual characteristics, at different stages of a scientific career, in a highly internationalised profession. Tensions arise when university administrators and managers need to strike a balance among different promotion instruments, or when the university or public research organisation tries to solve the trade-offs between long- and short-term relationships, or among new management practices. Impacts are related to scientific agendas, the economic returns for firms or the societal benefits. This book adopts a people-tension-impact approach to identify key insights, by combining qualitative and quantitative research, established and novel methodologies, and different geographic settings. The chapters in this volume provide new perspectives on university-industry interactions related to gender biases, entrepreneurial involvement of PhD students and the role of international mobility. They also focus on how the positive impacts of university-industry interactions coexist with unresolved tensions linked to policy combinations, long-term contractual relationships, management practices and organisational strategies. Chapters 4 and 6 are available open access under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License via link.springer.com.

Competitive strategies and higher education-industry collaboration policies are playing a vital role in fostering the reputation and international rankings of higher education institutions. The positive impact of these policies may best be observed in the economic and social outputs of many countries such as the USA, Singapore, South Korea, and European Union (EU) countries such as Belgium, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. However, the number of academic publications that specifically concentrate on the impact of these policies on higher education institutions and authorities remains relatively limited. University-Industry Collaboration Strategies in the Digital Era is an essential research publication that provides comprehensive research on competitive strategies for higher education institutions that will allow them to forge beneficial partnerships with industries that will have a significant impact on their success. Highlighting a wide range of topics such as human resource management, network planning, and institutional structure, this book is ideal for administrators, education professionals, academicians, researchers, policymakers, and students.

Technology Transfer Via University Industry Relations written by Maria Isabel Rivera Vargas and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-24 with Education categories.

This book examines the technology that is transferred in Mexico's Silicon Valley and the role that institutions of higher education and foreign electronics corporations play in the process. Riveria Vargas delineates that technology transfer is occurring, describes it nature, the channels of transfer, and its level by focusing on the informal mechanisms of technology transfer. Among the significant findings are that there has been very limited real technology transferred and that most of it is concentrated in operative-level capabilities. This study reveals that the lack of absorptive scientific and technological capacity, as a factor often cited to explain transfer failure, did not apply in the case of the region examined. In point of fact, the scientific and technological capacities exhibited in the region are superior to those in the Silicon Valley of the East in Malaysia during the 1970's and 1980's , where some studies reported more significant technology transfer. What then are the factors hindering technology transfer in some regions or promoting it in others? This book explores some the factors in play.
