The single most remarkable property of my unique new chess opening guidebook is that it is fish friendly! As many a forlorn loser has discovered to their chagrin, if you ever try reading your average encyclopedia volume one on chess openings from start to finish with the bright idea of absorbing all of the precious information inside it with your fabulous photographic memory, you will inevitably emerge thoroughly bewildered; and still just fish for the boys. In stark contrast the opening strategies in my book are presented using only complete sample games featuring consistently good if not best play for our side (with occasional lapse thrown in, just to add a touch of realism and keep you on your toes), so that by merely playing through them the apt student's playing strength is bound to improve dramatically as they learn by direct example all aspects of chess starteg from first move to checkmate. Just as learning to speak or read may seem like a miraculous event which occurs practically overnight, so may learning to play chess like a supremely talented champion! It is merely a matter of thoughtfully packaging the information in a suitable format to be readily assiilated by eager minds at their own rate without inadvertently giving them a severe case of cerebral indigestion, as well might a voluminous reference work choked with endless truncated opening lines and variants terminating in evaluation symbols of questionable value if you let's say supposing just for argument's sake happened to try to memorize the darn thing. Naturally I maintain my book offers the most expedient means of achieving real competence at chess; and am quite prepard to wager on it!

An exciting compendium on chess gambits, the most popular of the chess openings, Gambit Chess Openings (GCO) completes the trilogy of chess openings with Standard Chess Openings (SCO) and Unorthodox Chess Openings (UCO) to give players the complete encyclopedia of chess openings! Every important gambit opening and variation ever played and currently in vogue is here, collected together in one volume.Gambits, where one side sacrifices material, a pawn or more, for an advance in development, are the most exciting and popular openings in chess! Every player uses gambits to force early action and excitement over the board, even the world champions, whose great gambits are well represented in GCO. Not only are gambits fun to play, especially at the amateur level, but they are essential to be able to defend against so the gambiteer doesn't run off with the game in a few bold strokes.Hundreds of gambits are discussed with a clear explanation of what the gambit player receives in return for the sacrificed pawn or piece. Many of these gambits are seen primarily in amateur games, where they trap the unwary, but some gambits are encountered frequently in professional contests. Gambits are ranked according to various criteria so that readers can quickly find gambits with similar characteristics to the ones they already enjoy. Includes popular favorites such as the King's Gambit, Benko Gambit, Blackmar-Diemer Gambit, Cochrane Gambit, Fried Liver Attack, Evans Gambit, Smith-Morra Gambit, Latvian Gambit and the Elephant Gambit.More than 100 complete games are included so that readers can see how the ideas behind the gambit are influential not only in the beginning of the game, but later on inits development. An essential and fun reference book for both amateur and professional players.

Effective recipes for club players No matter how unconventional, irrational or even crazy a chess opening is, sooner or later every chess player will have to face it. When that happens, you can count on a well-prepared opponent who is more than happy to roll out his pet line. John Watson and Eric Schiller provide club players with solutions to a huge selection of these rarely-played or tricky chess openings. They concentrate upon ideas and strategy, with enough analysis to satisfy the needs of practical play. Only when a sharp reply is required, Watson and Schiller will recommend a more complex variation filled with tactics. In the vast majority of cases they present a simple and safe way to approach the position, requiring little memorization and still leading to a promising game. There is a lot of fun material in this book, and you may be surprised to see how even strong grandmasters have indulged in the craziest variations. Chess isn’t all main lines and 20 moves of theory!
