Perhaps, male-mindedness seems to have adapted to changing-contemporary circumstances to become more covert and conspiratorial. Sexist suggestions—through objectification and substantiated subordination—for instance, may have been explicit in Indian media a decade earlier. But in the contemporary times of online social media and vociferous feminism, such openness of unfairness against women in the media will, more often than not, be met with strife and unpalatable backlash—fearing which blatant prejudice is prudently steered clear of. It is, hence, understandable that patriarchy, to sustain itself as a culture, has adapted to become more benevolent in an increasingly hostile environment. To identify such sly and stealthy sexism embedded in media content, one may need a reconfigured grasp of contemporary feminist issues and an altered nuance for isolation and identification of discriminatory depictions. This book exposes redefined and hidden sexism that predominates the popular visual culture of India—particularly investigating mass and new media representations that are a prime part of and have a domineering effect on the ensemble of popular visual culture—and characterises contemporary feminist movements. It binds a collection of contemporary Indian case studies of sexism and feminism encompassing communication media such as print, cinema, television, Web series and social media. There is a lack of book titles that study media sexism in the present times, and the proposed book aims to explore an unexplored area that is of social and scholarly importance. This book highlights the duality of media platforms: while media is a critical tool associated with fourth-wave feminism, they still remain to be a deterrent to the development of women engendering inherent and age-old patriarchal notions. This book will be an eye-opener to the general readers about benevolent sexism and train them to identify sexism hidden in seemingly pro-women media representations.

In the distant future, all humans who reach the age of seventy-five experience the 'Click' and die. It's considered God's chronological death sentence intended to prevent overpopulation. Narcissist, Oliver Hitchcock, who looks to be in his late fifties, is a retired C.I.A. operative, and handsome lady's man. He is also one of the lucky ones, a Beater. At seventy-eight he beat the Click and the aging process. His eleven-year-old grandson, Christopher, is not so lucky. The child is prematurely in the throes of the Click and will die within the year if Hitchcock can't save him. As Christopher's impending demise clicks louder and louder and precious time evaporates before Hitchcock's eyes, he begins to unravel an ugly conspiracy and the truth about himself. In order to move forward and save his grandson he must overcome his own ego, and quite possibly sacrifice his youthful appearance—even his life.

Mumbai in the first decade of the 21st century is evidently on the threshold of a new and prosperous era. Having understood the city's strategic importance, economists are predicting greater international role for it, while town-planners are working overnight for its make over, expecting in-flow of unforeseen wealth. Paradoxically, however, intellectualism that this progressive, multi-cultural city had inherited is conspicuously on decline. Whether in social reform or in cultural renaissance, in literature or in performing arts, Mumbai had enjoyed an undisputed position of leadership for well over a century. Today it suffers from intellectual insolvency and cultural slide down. Once known as the most progressive city of India, Mumbai appears to have abandoned the path of enlightenment. The author, in a severe indictment of academicians, media persons, writers and culture bearers, holds failure of intellectuals responsible for this malaise.

Mumbai is India’s most affluent city and one of the most densely populated metropolises in the world. Each day thousands flock here, seduced by the urban dream and end up sleeping on the streets. Critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker and photographer, Dhruv Dhawan, spent three years roaming the streets of Mumbai capturing portraits of the unconscious while documenting a phenomena of urbanization in the 21st century where space has become so scarce that private acts are conducted in public. The Mumbai Sleeping Collection is a testament to the resilience and spirit of the lower class urban population who expose the diversity of a basic human experience and the question of whether a good night’s sleep is a luxury or a necessity.

And among these vast, teetering piles of discarded things - medical waste, rotten food, old clothes, broken glass and twisted metal - a small, forgotten community lives and works.Scouring the dump for whatever can be resold or recycled, waste pickers also mark the familiar milestones of babies born, love found, illnesses suffered and recovered from. Like a mirror image, their stories are shaped by the influx of unwanted things from the world outside. But now, as Deonar's toxic halo becomes undeniable, a change is coming. And as officials try to close it, the lives that the pickers have built on the Mountain seem more fragile than ever.
