"Everybody knows who did it!" In the aftermath of a horrific murder of a mother in front of her 4-year-old son, the entire close-knit community knew the murderer could only be one man. Several witnesses-including Eric, the boy left for dead-placed the murderer at the crime scene. But in Muncie, Indiana-also known as Little Chicago for its corruption, gambling, and attraction for criminal enterprise-during the late 1970s, nothing in the criminal justice system was that simple. After the county prosecutor declared the case "open and shut," some very important people in town became nervous that if the murderer was convicted, he would start naming names and telling stories about the criminal activities in the area. After a visit from the head of the local Teamsters union, suddenly there wasn't enough evidence to proceed, and the suspect was set free, never to be prosecuted or held accountable. Forty years have passed, and Paula Garrett's family, friends, and community have had to live every day knowing that a murderer is walking among them. To this day, the murderer is still being protected. Eric Garrett no longer expects justice. This murder is not unsolved, it is unprosecuted, and probably never will be. But the time has come to stop accepting the status quo. Unprosecuted: My Mother's Murder and the Search for Justice in Little Chicago is the story of corruption, cover-ups, and a son's frustration at knowing that the man who brutally murdered his mother and left him for dead may never be made to account for his crimes.

______________ 'I find it impossible to imagine anyone better read than White ... Wisdom and a certain kind of tenderness are to be found on every page' - Observer 'One of the great prose stylists of our time ... There are few paragraphs that pass by without an illuminating, wise or funny comment' - Tim Smith-Laing, Daily Telegraph 'A rallying cry for the pleasures of reading ... The best writers are energetic readers, constantly diving for buried treasure. Anyone who encounters this book is likely to emerge with something new and gleaming' - Financial Times ______________ Edmund White made his name as a writer, but he remembers his life through the books he read. For White, each momentous occasion came with books to match: Proust's Remembrance of Things Past, which opened up the seemingly closed world of homosexuality; the Ezra Pound poems adored by a lover he followed to New York; the biography of Stephen Crane that inspired one of White's novels. White's larger-than-life presence on the literary scene lends itself to fascinating, intimate insights into the lives of some of the world's best-loved cultural figures. Blending memoir and literary criticism, The Unpunished Vice is a sensitive, smart account of a life in literature.

Unpunished Crimes, the third novel in the Collingwood Series, finds Winson's wife, Caitlin, pregnant and missing. How will Winson find her and cope with hostile circumstances? "As moral and ethical conundrums arise, Winson begins to see the kinds of choices and their consequences as elements that could challenge and ultimately change not only his world but society as a whole." - Donovan's Literary Services "The Collingwood Series is Canadian historical fiction at its best." - Midwest Book Review Fans of All the Light We Cannot See, The Nightingale, and Unbroken will enjoy this captivating story of history, suspense, and love. What readers are saying... "Suspense, intrigue, and systemic racism are what makes the pages fly in this third book in the Collingwood Series. A page turner about a Chinese man in Canada who faces many challenges but guides his way through each by using lessons learned from his wise grandfather and his essential characteristics of being honest, having integrity, being kind and caring, but most of all, his ability to persevere. We can all learn some valuable lessons from Winson." Amazon reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Unpunished Crimes is the third book in the Collingwood Series and is literally a crescendo of mystery, suspense, and adventure in the life of Winson and Kate. It is a most fitting and exciting conclusion to these three novels. It contrasts the cultures, racism, injustice, and bigotry at every level of society interwoven into a captivating and fast paced read that you can't put down." Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I enjoyed the lively descriptions and dialogues in Unpunished Crimes, the third book in the Collingwood Series, which rounds out Winson's life story. Repeatedly confronted by evil, he stubbornly holds to the lessons of his early childhood, believing in and willing to fight for goodness. As I saw him maturing and becoming increasingly successful, it became obvious - the Collingwood Series tells the story of immigrants all over the world." Amazon reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Great twists and turns to the story. I highly recommend reading the entire Collingwood Series, and it makes a for a wonderful book club discussion." Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Author's Note: the Collingwood Series should be read in chronological order and not as individual stand-alone titles because of the background of events, characters, and storylines.

Murder Unpunished written by Thornton W. Price and has been published by University of Arizona Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Travel categories.

In November of 1977, Terry Lee Farmer, a white inmate at Arizona State Prison in Florence, walked up to black prisoner Waymond Small in front of sixty witnesses and stabbed him in the heart with a shank. Small had agreed to testify before the state legislature about gang violence inside Arizona State Prison and was murdered the day before his scheduled appearance. This murder proved the catalyst for an all-out war between the State of Arizona and the Aryan Brotherhood. Through five trials, Farmer claimed self-defense and the jurors acquitted all ten of his co-conspirators. Thornton Price, one of the defense attorneys, now tells how Farmer and Small became cannon fodder in this war to reclaim ArizonaÕs prisons from rival gangs. These gangsÑthe Aryan Brotherhood, the Mau Maus, and the Mexican MafiaÑwere suspected of committing more than a dozen murders over the previous two years, motivating politicians to crack down after the violence could no longer be ignored or contained. To reconstruct the case, Price reviewed 16,000 pages of court records and conducted interviews with key participants to piece together an insiderÕs account of the crime and the politics behind its investigation. Prison murders should be easy to solve, but investigators quickly learned that the convictsÕ code of silence makes these cases often impossible to win in court. Price focuses on the special problems posed by prison crime by getting inside the skins of men like murderer Terry "Crazy" Farmer and William "Red Dog" Howard, one of the Florence Eleven and a founder of the Aryan Brotherhood. He also presents the perspectives of state investigators and reveals how they calculated to pit black witnesses against white killers until one black would break the code of silence and provoke feuding within the Brotherhood. Murder Unpunished tells how societyÕs most outrageous criminals ran the prison through gang violence as outside the walls Arizona struggled to outgrow its Wild West past. Like few other books, it reveals how prisons incubate predatory criminals and gangs, and it exposes the unique difficulties of prosecuting prison crimes. It is a gripping account that cuts to the heart of our penal system and a cautionary tale for citizens who prefer to keep prisons out of sight, out of mind.
