This book examines Sai Baba of Shirdi from the standpoint of Islamic mysticism - the Deccani Sufism of 19th century Maharashtra - in order to resolve the mystery surrounding the saint. Two new pieces of work are used in this book. First, Dr Warren elucidates the English translation of part of the works of some 17th and 18th century Maharashtrian Sufi poet-saints. Secondly, she includes the English translation of the previously untranslated Urdu notebook, jotted down by Abdul - Sai Baba's faqiri pupil - from teachings based on the Qur'an given to him by his pir Sai Baba. Both of these contributions allow us to look into a world hitherto closed, and expand our awareness of the famous miracle-worker of Shirdi.

"In the present age of consumerism, people often look for quick gains and shortcuts to success. Amidst the cacophony of such supposedly wish-fulfilling claims, the need for a genuine guide, a true guru, is often felt by those who are able to look beyond the facade of oratorial brilliance. The Sai of Shirdi has been one such authentic presence whose voice has healed the injured, guided those who had lost the way, and brought back hope to those who had lost everything. Though he led a simple life, what is known for certain is that he was deeply soaked in the Sufi tradition and was knowledgeable of the Vedanta. Like Kabir, his universalism, tolerance and presence transcended the religious boundaries of both Hinduism and Islam. The significance of Baba is embodied not in his identity but in the impact his presence had on millions of devotees and still continues to have, though he may not be with us physically. The inspiration behind this English musical, on the life and teachings of Sai, was to convey the message of this enigmatic saint to a younger English-speaking audience.

Sri Sai Baba Chants is an inspired collection of songs that emerged spontaneously from the author over a short period of time. His Guru reverend Swami Satyananda Ji Maharaj of Sri Ramsharnam led the author to the subtle experience of Sri Sai Baba of Shirdi. The author is neither a saint nor a Pir but he considers himself as a slave of Sai Baba's devotees. This book was originally written in Hindi, and is translated into English on popular demand of Sai devotees abroad. Though the author has never been inclined to poetry, these verses sprang-up spontaneously, most probably inspired by Sai Baba. Acharya Purushottamananda, formerly Professor of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, was born on 28 January, 1935 in a Jat Zamindar family with historic tradition of valour and patriotism in tehsil Iglas of Aligarh District. He came in contact with the Revolutionary movement for the independence of India, and the Arya Samaj Movement under the legendary leadership of Raja Mahendra Pratap of Mursan. He received his education leading to the post-graduation in Political Science at Aligarh. He joined the government of India service in the Ministry of Rehabilitation, but later went for further education. He received Master's degree in Education from the university of Aligarh and also from the University of Manchester, UK. Presently, he is engaged in peripetatic mission by joining spiritual congregations of different orders, where he is welcome; but has no organizational links with any religious or cult organizations.

Nearly a century after his death, the image of Sai Baba, the serene old man with the white beard from Shirdi village in Maharashtra, India, is instantly recognizable to most South Asians (and many Westerners) as a guru for all faiths—Hindus, Muslims, and others. During his lifetime Sai Baba accepted all followers who came to him, regardless of religious or caste background, and preached a path of spiritual enlightenment and mutual tolerance. These days, tens of thousands of Indians and foreigners make the pilgrimage to Shirdi each year, and Sai Baba temples have sprung up in unlikely places around the world, such as Munich, Seattle, and Austin. Tracing his rise from small village guru to global phenomenon, religious studies scholar Karline McLain uses a wide range of sources to investigate the different ways that Sai Baba has been understood in South Asia and beyond and the reasons behind his skyrocketing popularity among Hindus in particular. Shining a spotlight on an incredibly forceful devotional movement that avoids fundamental politics and emphasizes unity, service, and peace, The Afterlife of Sai Baba is an entertaining—and enlightening—look at one of South Asia’s most popular spiritual gurus.

Chanting of Sri Sai Ashtothara, the 108 names of Shirdi Saibaba, is the most chosen and popular way of worshipping Baba. The Ashtothara was compiled, originally, by Pujya Sri Narasimha Swamiji, an ardent Sai devotee. Sai Ashtothara is chanted daily in Shirdi during Kakad (Morning) Arti. However, no attempt has been undertaken to make one relate these sacred names to the memorable miracles and leelas of his grace and protection. This is a prayer book and an attempt to explore the deeper inner significance of each name. Hopefully it will be helpful to every Sai devotee to win his grace and blessings.
