This book explores how boys from low-socioeconomic status backgrounds disengage from their education, and are resultantly severely underrepresented in post-compulsory education. For those who attend university, many will be first-in-their-family. As first-in-family students, they may encounter significant barriers which may limit their participation in university life and their acquisition of social and cultural capital. Drawing on a longitudinal study of young Australian men pursuing higher education, the book provides the first detailed account of socially mobile working-class masculinities. Investigating the experiences of these young men, this book analyses their acclimatisation to new learning environments as well as their changing subjectivities. The monograph draws on various sociological theories to analyse empirical data and make practical recommendations which will drive innovation in widening participation initiatives internationally. This book will be of interest to scholars interested in widening participation, transitions, social mobility and Critical Studies of Men and Masculinities.

This transformative book not only offers a deep understanding of the complex nature of narcissism but also lays out a strategic path towards healing, empowerment, and ultimately, freedom. With the gentle precision of a seasoned expert, the book begins by unveiling the mask of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. It methodically guides the reader through recognizing the subtle yet profound signs of having a narcissistic parent, the cunning emotional manipulation tactics employed, and the chilling lack of empathy that characterizes these relationships. The narrative is both enlightening and validating, providing a much-needed acknowledgment of the reader's experiences. As the journey unfolds, the book dives into the heart of the matter--the profound impact narcissistic abuse has on one's psyche. From the psychological to the emotional toll, it doesn't shy away from detailing the long-term effects on relationships and self-esteem. Yet, amidst the exposition, it offers a clear, hopeful voice--a promise that the cycle can be broken. Empowerment takes center stage in Rise Above. Seizing control from the clutches of the past, it elucidates successful strategies for establishing boundaries, engaging in healing self-care practices, and rebuilding one's self-esteem. The book positions healing and self-reclamation as not just possibilities but inevitable outcomes for those who dare to embrace their journey. Moreover, it extends a hand towards building healthier relationships and achieving financial independence, crucial steps towards authentic self-sufficiency. With an entire chapter dedicated to finding your voice and another to managing the complexities of maintaining or severing ties, the book serves as an unwavering companion through every step of recovery. In the final chapters, Rise Above turns its focus inward, prompting readers to embark on the most significant journey of all--reclaiming their identity. Through exploration of one's interests, passions, and values, it champions the forging of a new, deeply personal path, unmarred by the shadows of the past. Coupled with empowering strategies through education and support, this book promises not just survival, but a thriving existence beyond the grip of narcissistic parents. The Right To Resist written by Mario Wenning and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-01-12 with Philosophy categories.

While the idea of total revolution seems anachronistic today, there is increasing consensus about the importance of new forms of political, ethical, and aesthetic resistance. In the past, resistance was often motivated as a form of protest against specific institutions. Increasingly, dissent has become integrated into the fabric of modern life. This volume addresses new forms of resistance at a level that combines a rootedness in the philosophical tradition and a sensitivity to rethinking the possibility of emancipation in today's age. The work focuses on contemporary social and political philosophy from a perspective informed by critical theory. The text specifically addresses three challenges. (1) Critical theorists need to investigate in which ways resistance, conformism, and oppression oppose and constitute each other. (2) The relationship between the theory and the practice of resistance needs to be posed anew, given recent protest movements and media of protest. (3) It needs to be shown in which ways different areas of society such as the arts, religion and social media establish divergent practices of resistance. The chapters are written by scholars from Asia, Europe and North America. These experts in resistance discourse focus on practices of dissent ranging from traditional forms of civil disobedience, to more recent practices such as guerrilla protest, art, and resistance in digital networks, including social media. What unites them is a shared concern for the dimensions of political acts of resistance in an age that is characterized by a tendency to integrate and thereby neutralize those very acts.
