Gerade bei Aktiengesellschaften zählen für viele Kapitalgeber nur die Rentabilität des eingesetzten Geldes, Dividendenerträge und Kursgewinne um jeden Preis. Wie der Ge-winn zustande kommt wird zur Nebensache. Der Nobelpreisträger für Wirtschaftswis-senschaften, Milton Friedman, schrieb schon 1970, dass die soziale Verantwortung von Unternehmen ausschließlich darin bestehe, ihren Profit zu steigern. Ob der Profit bspw. aus unmenschlichen Arbeitsbedingungen oder Kinderarbeit erzielt wird, blieb in der Vergangenheit häufig im Dunkeln. In letzter Zeit ist diese Thematik stärker im öffentlichen Fokus. Diese Entwicklung hat ein Umdenken vieler global tätiger Unternehmen verursacht. Ihnen ist bewusst gewor-den, dass nicht nur der Preis allein eine Kaufentscheidung beeinflusst und das aus-schließliche Streben nach größtmöglichem Profit nicht mehr alleine eine übergeordnete Priorität einnimmt. Diese Entwicklung wurde auch durch Unternehmensskandale sowie weltweite soziale, ökologische und ökonomische Krisen gefördert. Zur Diskussion stehen der Umfang und die Reichweite der ethischen bzw. sozialen Verantwortung von Unternehmen, Unter-nehmern und Managern. Typische Fragen hierbei sind etwa: Welche Rolle sollen Un-ternehmen bei der Einhaltung und Durchsetzung von Menschenrechten übernehmen? Beispiele wie Shell (Brent Spar), Nike (Arbeitsbedingungen bei den Lieferanten), Telekom (Gehaltserhöhung der Vorstände), Mannesmann (Abfindung von Topmanagern) oder Enron (Bilanzierungstricks) zeigen, dass in der Öffentlichkeit unternehmerische Handlungen zunehmend kritisch reflektiert werden.1 Zwar verdanken die traditionellen Wirtschaftsordnungen der westlichen Industrieländer ihre Legitimation dem hohen materiellen Leistungsstandard und der allgemeinen Prosperität, die sie erzeugt haben, doch findet die ausschließende Konzentrierung auf strategische Rationalität und Nutzenmaximierung keine Rechtfertigung mehr.2 Es reicht nicht mehr aus, das Jahresergebnis zu erhöhen und für einen steigenden Aktienkurs zu sorgen, weil erwartet wird, dass der Gewinn auf verantwortbare Weise entsteht. „Nur das Gleichgewicht von Wirtschaft, Umwelt und Gesellschaft gewährleistet die Stabilität, die für unseren Erfolg ausschlaggebend ist. Das gilt für unsere unternehmensinternen Abläufe und Prozesse im gleichen Maße wie für unsere Beziehungen zu anderen gesellschaftlichen Akteuren.“ 3 Es stellt sich also nicht mehr die Frage, ob Unternehmen eine gesellschaftliche Rolle ausüben, sondern wie sie die unterschiedlichen Vorstellungen seitens der Politik, der Kunden, der Lieferanten, der Aktionäre und auch der Mitarbeiter in ihre alltäglichen Entscheidungsprozesse integrieren können. Durch welche Maßnahmen und Prozesse kann im alltäglichen Handeln eine Synthese aus ökonomischen Anforderungen und ethischen Forderungen hergestellt werden? In den USA liefert die Business- Ethics- Bewegung hierzu bereits Vorschläge und praktische Modelle zur Umsetzung von verantwortlichem Handeln im unternehmerischen Alltag, während empirische Studien in Deutschland zeigen, dass beim Thema Unternehmensethik noch sehr viel Unsicherheit herrscht: „Es muss fast erschrecken, wie einseitig Unternehmensethik mit Umweltschutz- und zwar als technisches Problem- gleichgesetzt wird, und wie selten beispielsweise die Arbeitsplatzfrage als spezifisch unternehmensethisches Problem eingeschätzt wird“.

Ever since people have lived together in groups, there have been leaders and those who are led. The many different leadership styles have also been discussed and criticized since the 1950s. The question arises which style is the most efficient or the "right" style for leading people. For a company it is of great importance with which behavior their managers can influence or motivate the employees to the best possible performance and thus achieve the company's goals. Empirical studies show that the leadership style has a great influence on the work and well-being of leaders and employees and thus also on the economic success of the company. However, there is no one optimal leadership style as several studies and publications have already proven. Each of the styles can achieve both positive and negative results, depending on the situation and the individual employee. The leadership styles should be adapted according to the situation. In this paper, after defining the terms leadership and leadership style, on the one hand the classical leadership styles and on the other hand the transactional and the transformational leadership styles are explained and compared. Possible advantages and disadvantages as well as their influence on employee motivation, willingness to perform and leadership success will be shown. In addition, results of current studies will provide an insight into the state of research. Finally, the most important points are summarized and a concluding conclusion is drawn on the basis of the knowledge gained.
