A portable calorie counter to help you pick restaurants and meals, from the author of "Urban Skinny" How do people in cities like New York have power jobs, social lives, endless pressure--and look fabulous? How do they knock back martinis, seal million-dollar deals over gourmet dinners, and still zip up that little black dress? Well, Danielle Schupp has the answer, and now all New Yorkers can do it with her companion book to "Urban Skinny." "Urban Skinny NYC "takes us on a culinary trip through Manhattan, giving smart restaurant choices for power lunches, big dates, girls' nights out, and brunch. It gives a taste of something in every neighborhood, spanning many different types of cuisine, with menus that help keep calories in check--and easy picks of 500-600 calorie meals for each restaurant (and lower calorie options for breakfast and lunch). Also included are quick tips for ordering, the low-down on favorite cocktails, and exactly how many calories are in a slice of New York pizza, a bagel with cream cheese, or a dirty water dog.

Voting As A Rite written by Joshua Hill and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-26 with History categories.

For over a century, voting has been a surprisingly common political activity in China. Voting as a Rite examines China’s experiments with elections from the perspective of intellectual and cultural history. Rather than arguing that such exercises were either successful or failed attempts at political democracy, the book instead focuses on a previously unasked question: how did those who participated in Chinese elections define success or failure for themselves? Answering this question reveals why Chinese elites originally became enamored of elections at the end of the nineteenth century, why critics complained about elections that featured real competition in the early twentieth century, and why elections continued to be held after the mid-twentieth century even though outcomes were predetermined by the state. While no mainland Chinese government has ever felt that its rule required validation at the ballot box, the discourses that surrounded elections reveal much about important tensions within modern Chinese political thought. What is the best means to identify talent? Can the state trust the people to act responsibly as citizens? As Joshua Hill shows, elections are vital, not peripheral, to understanding these concerns fully.

Class Culture And Tragedy In The Plays Of Jez Butterworth written by Sean McEvoy and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-29 with Performing Arts categories.

Jez Butterworth is undoubtedly one of the most popular and commercially successful playwrights to have emerged in Britain in the early twenty-first century. This book, only the second so far to have been written on him, argues that the power of his most acclaimed work comes from a reinvigoration of traditional forms of tragedy expressed in a theatricalized working-class language. Butterworth’s most developed tragedies invoke myth and legend as a figurative resistance to the flat and crushing instrumentalism of contemporary British political and economic culture. In doing so they summon older, resonant narratives which are both popular and high-cultural in order to address present cultural crises in a language and in a form which possess wide appeal. Tracing the development of Butterworth’s work chronologically from Mojo (1995) to The Ferryman (2017), each chapter offers detailed critical readings of a single play, exploring how myth and legend become significant in a variety of ways to Butterworth’s presentation of cultural and personal crisis.

**THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER** Magnus Walker is one of life’s originals. Serial entrepreneur, fashion designer, TV presenter, motivational speaker and one of the world’s most prolific Porsche collectors, the dreadlocked, tattooed hoarder of individual creativity is a very modern incarnation of success. Raised in the urban decay of Thatcher’s Britain, Sheffield-born Magnus Walker left school with just two O levels and drifted for several years before buying a one-way ticket to America. Now, 30 years and three successful businesses later, by following his instincts, rejecting convention and pursuing his passions Magnus has succeeded against all the odds. Here, for the first time, is the full story of his journey from a Northern steel town to the bright lights of Hollywood, from a boy with little hope to an anti-establishment hero. Along the way we’ll witness his potent combination of inspiration and graft, discover his motivations and his ambitions, and come to understand his philosophy and the keys to his success. Inspiring and exhilarating, URBAN OUTLAW is a compelling tale of succeeding through pure instinct and determination by a man who was brave enough to follow his own path.
