Mapping Urban Spaces focuses on medium-sized European cities and more specifically on their open spaces from psychological, sociological, and aesthetic points of view. The chapters illustrate how the characteristics that make life in medium-sized European cities pleasant and sustainable – accessibility, ease of travel, urban sustainability, social inclusiveness – can be traced back to the nature of that space. Incontro di studi internazionale organizzato in occasione della presentazione della Carta di rischio archeologico di Cesena, promossa dall'Amministrazione Comunale e messa a punto da un équipe di ricercatori guidati dal prof. Sauro Gelichi, All'incontro hanno partecipato ricercatori e studiosi italiani e stranieri, confrontando esperienze diverse, sia sul piano dell'elaborazione teorica sia su quello delle pratiche di tutela, esperienze diverse a seconda dei paesi e delle storie delle archeologie nazionali. Nel complesso non emergono situazioni privilegiate o territori dove si è raggiunto un buon equilibrio tra sviluppo urbanistico del territorio e salvaguardia intelligente del patrimonio archeologico; e lo scontro non è solo tra pubblico e privato, ma spesso tensioni non marginali sono presenti a vari livelli nella stessa sfera del pubblico. Piuttosto si può notare, in taluni paesi, un più elevato ed avanzato tasso di elaborazione teorica. The PhD course in Mediaeval History of the University of Florence is one of the oldest in the Italian university circuit. Founded in 1983 by Girolamo Arnaldi, Elio Conti and Raoul Manselli, all the cycles of the courses were launched, achieving results of the greatest significance in the sphere of research. Over the years, about sixty young students and a couple of dozen teachers have given shape to a human and intellectual experience based on exchange and the acceptance of different points of view. Traced out in this book is a brief history of the first twenty years, rendering account of the activities fostered and the research carried out, and providing the scientific and bibliographic profiles of each member.
