Urs Fischer (Switzerland, 1973) is one of the most active and influential contemporary artists of his generation. Exhibiting internationally since the late 90s, this is his first solo exhibition in Latin America. Coming to Mexico, Urs Fischer's goal is to offer a survey of his practice to date spanning more than 25 years of production, while presenting new work conceived for the show and a country whose culture is deeply rooted in the iconography of catholic faith that is richly represented in its arts. Urs Fischer has conceived an exhibition that is variously playful, ro-mantic and poetic, where the visitor can descend into the underworld and ascend upwards into his imagination. While the show presents old, recent, and never-before seen works, as a whole it acts as an installation specific to the Museo Jumex's distinctive building. Rather than following a chronologically order, Lovers treats the museum like a birthday cake with its different layers and flavor. Each floor offers the view-er its own specific experience that, like the book Alice in the Wonderland, allows for diverse physical and dimensions, as well as shifts from emotion to perception, or from detached gaze to sublime wonder.

A legendary painting by Rembrandt forms the centerpiece of this exploration of self-portraits by leading artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Published to commemorate an exhibition presented by Gagosian in partnership with English Heritage, this stunning volume centers on Rembrandt's masterpiece Self-Portrait with Two Circles (c. 1665), from the collection of Kenwood House in London. The painting is considered to be Rembrandt's greatest late self-portrait and is accompanied here by examples of the genre from leading artists of the past one hundred years. These include works by Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucian Freud, and Pablo Picasso, as well as contemporary artists such as Georg Baselitz, Glenn Brown, Urs Fischer, Damien Hirst, Howard Hodgkin, Giuseppe Penone, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, and Rudolf Stingel, among others. Also featured is a new work by Jenny Saville, created in response to Rembrandt's masterpiece. Full-color plates of the works, generous details, and installation views of the exhibition accompany an expansive essay by art historian David Freedberg that provides a close look at the self-portraits created by Rembrandt throughout his life and considers the role of the Dutch master as the precursor of all modern painting.

How To See Looking Talking And Thinking About Art written by David Salle and has been published by W. W. Norton & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-04 with Art categories.

“If John Berger’s Ways of Seeing is a classic of art criticism, looking at the ‘what’ of art, then David Salle’s How to See is the artist’s reply, a brilliant series of reflections on how artists think when they make their work. The ‘how’ of art has perhaps never been better explored.” —Salman Rushdie How does art work? How does it move us, inform us, challenge us? Internationally renowned painter David Salle’s incisive essay collection illuminates these questions by exploring the work of influential twentieth-century artists. Engaging with a wide range of Salle’s friends and contemporaries—from painters to conceptual artists such as Jeff Koons, John Baldessari, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alex Katz, among others—How to See explores not only the multilayered personalities of the artists themselves but also the distinctive character of their oeuvres. Salle writes with humor and verve, replacing the jargon of art theory with precise and evocative descriptions that help the reader develop a personal and intuitive engagement with art. The result: a master class on how to see with an artist’s eye.

FROM THE PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING AND MAN BOOKER-SHORTLISTED AUTHOR 'Sparkles with brilliant observations on art and architecture, friendship and loss' Guardian 'Everybody should get to spend a month with Mr. Matar, looking at paintings' Zadie Smith, Wall Street Journal, Books of the Year _______________________________________________ Matar was nineteen years old when his father was kidnapped. In the year following he found himself turning to art, particularly the great paintings of the Sienese School. They became a refuge and a way to think about the world outside the urgencies of the present. A quarter of a century later, having found no trace of his father, Matar finally visits the birthplace of those paintings. A Month in Siena is the encounter between the writer and the city. It is an immersion in painting, a consideration of love, grief and a profoundly moving contemplation of the relationship between art and life. _______________________________________________ 'A dazzling exploration of art's impact on his life and writing, and a moving contemplation of grief' Financial Times 'I can think of no better expression of the humane than this economical, modest, yet altogether breathtaking book' New Statesman, Books of the Year 'Bewitching, intensely moving' The Economist, Books of the Year
