Exploring and Engaging Spirituality for Today's Children: A Holistic Approach answers questions about the most effective ways to help children, pre-teens, and teens develop spiritually. This collection of research gleaned from presentations during the Fourth Triennial Children's Spirituality Conference at Concordia University in 2012 is divided into four major sections: (1) theological and historical foundations, (2) engaging parents and congregations, (3) engaging methodologies, and (4) exploring children at risk, child pornography, social justice, intercultural diversity, and abstinence education. Researchers acknowledge that the home is the foundation for Christian nurture. In Exploring and Engaging Spirituality for Today's Children, both scholars and ministry leaders come together with parents to promote a holistic environment where children are encouraged to love, respect, and obey God. From birth to high school, children's voices resonate throughout these studies as they are invited to share their reflections and experiences. Exploring and Engaging Spirituality for Today's Children is a lively, easy-to-read collection that reflects a broad range of faith traditions and is ideal for all those who are committed to the spiritual development of children.

My mentoring service was provided to Korean immigrant parents in pastoral settings for the purpose of helping them renew their family spirit and strengthen their relationships with their Canadian-raised children. Both Jean-Guy Nadeau's pastoral praxeology and Richard Osmer's four main tasks were adopted as guideposts since the nature of this project incorporated pastoral, ethical, and practical theological. The empirical/descriptive task of observation includes data collection, analysis, and interpretation within the framework of the research design and plan. The research findings indicate that conflicts between parents and children diminish family spirit within Korean immigrant families. The interpretive task problematizes the research findings by performing contextual analysis and draws on theories of human sciences to show how Korean immigrant families are affected by the traditional Korean value system founded on Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The normative task of theological interpretation presents how Christian virtues, evangelical qualities of relationships, and ethical norms and teachings of the Church can become incorporated into the lifestyles of Korean immigrant parents who wish to live in harmony with their children and renew their family spirit in full accordance with the Gospel. The pragmatic task of operational re-elaboration implements a ministerial solution formulated on theoretical and spiritual interpretations that are concerned with how the mentoring service can be used to cultivate Christian virtues in Korean immigrant parents, teach them self-control practice, and strengthen their relationships with their children.

Spiritual practitioners and experts across religious traditions are convinced that contemplation cultivates an awareness of the deeper desires of the human heart. But many will ask: does contemplation still exist? If one has been led to believe that there indeed exists the art of contemplation, one will still perhaps wonder what it is and whether or not it is still relevant and applicable today. For many, the term “contemplation” itself perhaps connotes a sense of an exotic practice from a distant past unrelated and impractical to the contemporary life. In this book the author explores the nature and functions of Christian contemplation and offers the reader a wide variety of contemplative prayer methods that can help cultivate an awareness of the spiritual dimension of the human life. The author argues that Christian contemplation is the work of the Holy Spirit. While drawing upon a variety of Christian traditions, the author bases his discussion on the Jesuit tradition of prayer, discernment, and spiritual growth as revealed in the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius.

The Signature of Jesus challenges the gospel of "cheap grace" and calls the church to radical discipleship. With passion and boldness, author Brennan Manning invites readers to risk living life as Jesus lived—committed to simplicity, purity of heart, and obedience to the gospel. As a radical alternative this book is offered to Christians who want to live by faith and not by mere “religion,” for those who recognize that many of the burning theological issues in the church today are neither burning nor theological; who see Christianity neither as a moral code or a belief system but as a love affair; who have not forgotten that they are followers of a crucified Christ; who know that following him means living dangerously; who want to live the gospel without compromise; who have no greater desire than to have his signature written on the pages of their lives. “Behold,” Jesus proclaims, “I stand at the door and knock.” You may have already met him at the door…but do you truly know him? Have you been transformed by His furious, passionate, unexplainable love? Join Brennan Manning, the bestselling author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, on a personal journey to experience Christ’s love and live with His passion.
