Using Life written by Ahmed Naji and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-12-07 with Fiction categories.
Upon its initial release in Arabic in the fall of 2014, Using Life received acclaim in Egypt and the wider Arab world. But in 2016, Ahmed Naji was sentenced to two years in prison after a reader complained that an excerpt published in a literary journal harmed public morality. His imprisonment marks the first time in modern Egypt that an author has been jailed for a work of literature. Writers and literary organizations around the world rallied to support Naji, and he was released in December 2016. His original conviction was overturned in May 2017 but, at the time of printing, he is awaiting retrial and banned from leaving Egypt. Set in modern-day Cairo, Using Life follows a young filmmaker, Bassam Bahgat, after a secret society hires him to create a series of documentary films about the urban planning and architecture of Cairo. The plot in which Bassam finds himself ensnared unfolds in the novel’s unique mix of text and black-and-white illustrations. The Society of Urbanists, Bassam discovers, is responsible for centuries of world-wide conspiracies that have shaped political regimes, geographical boundaries, reigning ideologies, and religions. It is responsible for today’s Cairo, and for everywhere else, too. Yet its methods are subtle and indirect: it operates primarily through manipulating urban architecture, rather than brute force. As Bassam immerses himself in the Society and its shadowy figures, he finds Cairo on the brink of a planned apocalypse, designed to wipe out the whole city and rebuild anew.

"This is an excellent book for researchers who want to conduct nursing research using life history. It contains worthwhile basic information about the design and many good examples of its use. " -- Doody's Book Review Service Life history is a qualitative research method used to tell the story of an individual through the eyes of a researcher, who frames the story within the context of the culture in which the person lived. In this book, experienced scholars in qualitative life history research discuss the theoretical rationale for using this design, describe its components, and delineate a practical plan to conduct studies, including a focus on appropriate methods, ethical considerations, and potential pitfalls. Examples from published nursing research with author commentary help to support new researchers in making decisions and facing challenges. This concise, "how to" guide to conducting ethnography research is part of the seven-book nursing series, Qualitative Designs and Methods, which focuses on qualitative methodologies. The series will be of direct aid to novice nurse researchers and specialists seeking to develop or enhance their competency in a particular design, graduate educators and students in qualitative research courses, research sections in larger hospitals, and in-service educators and students. The book describes traditional and focused life history, phases of research, and methodology from sample and setting to dissemination and follow-up. Case studies follow a template that includes a description of the study, data collection and analysis, and dissemination. Counseling Individuals With Life Threatening Illness written by Kenneth J. Doka and has been published by Springer Publishing Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-15 with Psychology categories.
With a Foreword by Robert A. Neimeyer, PhD "Where was this book when I was new as a counselor?....Fortunately, it is here now, and with all the scope, depth, resourcefulness, and balance required for such situations." -Dr. Robert Kastenbaum, PhD "This book will now be an indispensable resource for anyone who wants to understand, counsel, or otherwise help individuals with life-threatening illnesses and their family members." --Charles A. Corr, PhD, CT "Without question, this is the book you'll want your own caregivers to have read should you ever contend with life-threatening illness." --Therese A. Rando, PhD, BCETS, BCBT Life-threatening illness is not only a medical crisis; it is a psychological, social, and spiritual crisis as well. Also, serious illness affects not only the patient, but the patient's family. Therefore, the two major premises of this book are that care in life-threatening illness must be holistic, and it must be family centered. Doka presents an insightful, comprehensive guide for counselors, social workers, and health care professionals, as they assist clients experiencing a serious illness. The book builds on a model developed by the author, based upon earlier work by Avery Weisman and E. M. Patterson. Doka's model presents illness as a series of phases: Prediagnostic: individuals may decide how to handle troubling symptoms or to take certain diagnostic tests Diagnostic: centered on the existential crisis posed by the diagnosis Chronic: individuals must cope with the disease and treatment Recovery: acknowledges that even when individuals survive an encounter with life-threatening illness, there are still considerable issues that must be resolved Terminal phase: individuals deal with the inevitability of death In his discussion of each phase, the author delineates specific tasks for patients to perform and the issues they must adapt to. He also presents strategies for counselors and health care professionals to use with individuals in each phase of illness.
