This monograph develops a framework for modeling and solving utility maximization problems in nonconvex wireless systems. The first part develops a model for utility optimization in wireless systems. The model is general enough to encompass a wide array of system configurations and performance objectives. Based on the general model, a set of methods for solving utility maximization problems is developed in the second part of the book. The development is based on a careful examination of the properties that are required for the application of each method. This part focuses on problems whose initial formulation does not allow for a solution by standard methods and discusses alternative approaches. The last part presents two case studies to demonstrate the application of the proposed framework. In both cases, utility maximization in multi-antenna broadcast channels is investigated.

Mobile Lightweight Wireless Systems written by Fabrizio Granelli and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-08-10 with Computers categories.

The First International Conference on Mobile Lightweight Systems (MOBILIGHT) was held in Athens during May 18–20, 2009. The decision to organize a scientific event on wireless communications, where competition is really enormous, was motivated by discussions with some colleagues about the current unprecedented request for lightweight, wireless communication devices with high usability and performance able to support added-value services in a highly mobile environment. Such devices follow the user everywhere he/she goes (at work, at home, while travelling, in a classroom, etc.), but also result in exciting - search, development and business opportunities. Such a scenario clearly demands significant upgrades to the existing communi- tion paradigm in terms of infrastructure, devices and services to support the anytime, anywhere, any device philosophy, introducing novel and fast-evolving requirements and expectations on research and development in the field of information and com- nication technologies. The core issue is to support the desire of wireless users to have 24/7 network availability and transparent access to "their own" services.

Bats Codes written by Shenghao Yang and has been published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-19 with Computers categories.

This book discusses an efficient random linear network coding scheme, called BATched Sparse code, or BATS code, which is proposed for communication through multi-hop networks with packet loss. Multi-hop wireless networks have applications in the Internet of Things (IoT), space, and under-water network communications, where the packet loss rate per network link is high, and feedbacks have long delays and are unreliable. Traditional schemes like retransmission and fountain codes are not sufficient to resolve the packet loss so that the existing communication solutions for multi-hop wireless networks have either long delay or low throughput when the network length is longer than a few hops. These issues can be resolved by employing network coding in the network, but the high computational and storage costs of such schemes prohibit their implementation in many devices, in particular, IoT devices that typically have low computational power and very limited storage. A BATS code consists of an outer code and an inner code. As a matrix generalization of a fountain code, the outer code generates a potentially unlimited number of batches, each of which consists of a certain number (called the batch size) of coded packets. The inner code comprises (random) linear network coding at the intermediate network nodes, which is applied on packets belonging to the same batch. When the batch size is 1, the outer code reduces to an LT code (or Raptor code if precode is applied), and network coding of the batches reduces to packet forwarding. BATS codes preserve the salient features of fountain codes, in particular, their rateless property and low encoding/decoding complexity. BATS codes also achieve the throughput gain of random linear network coding. This book focuses on the fundamental features and performance analysis of BATS codes, and includes some guidelines and examples on how to design a network protocol using BATS codes.

Statistical Robust Beamforming For Broadcast Channels And Applications In Satellite Communication written by Andreas Gründinger and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-27 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book investigates adaptive physical-layer beamforming and resource allocation that ensure reliable data transmission in the multi-antenna broadcast channel. The book provides an overview of robust optimization techniques and modelling approximations to deal with stochastic performance metrics. One key contribution of the book is a closed-form description of the achievable rates with unlimited transmit power for a rank-one channel error model. Additionally, the book provides a concise duality framework to transform mean square error (MSE) based beamformer designs, e.g., quality of service and balancing optimizations, into equivalent uplink filter designs. For the algorithmic solution, the book analyses the following paradigm: transmission to receivers with large MSE targets (low demands) is switched off if the transmit power is low. The book also studies chance constrained optimizations for limiting the outage probability. In this context, the book provides two novel conservative outage probability approximations, that result in convex beamformer optimizations. To compensate for the remaining inaccuracy, the book introduces a post-processing power allocation. Finally, the book applies the introduced beamformer designs for SatCom, where interference from neighboring spotbeams and channel fading are the main limitations.
