Ultra-wideband (UWB) technology is a radio technology that uses electromagnetic waves with a very low power spectral density occupying a bandwidth of more than 25% of a centre frequency, or more than 0.5GHz, for short-range remote sensing, high-bandwidth communications or object positioning. The detailed analyses of state-of-the-art UWB technology has shown that this technology is very interesting and promising with a great application potential. Following these facts, our book attempts to present current and emerging trends in research and development of UWB systems. The book is focused on basic components of UWB systems such as antennas, filters, photonic approach for signal processing methods, as well as on some applications of UWB systems (human target analysis, cancer detection).

Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2015 in the subject Communications - Miscellaneous, , language: English, abstract: This Paper deals with basic introduction to UWB Technology and why it is so attractive. The UWB mask for different countries are also discussed along with the application of the technology. Ultra wideband technology has great potentials to enhance the wireless technologies as compared to conventional narrow band technology. Because of this fact researchers are attracted towards this band. A report in February 2002 by Federal Communication Commission was issued which was a major breakthrough for UWB Technology. FCC had approved the band of 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz for unlicensed use for indoor and outdoor applications in the USA. Our paper gives brief introduction in section 1 followed by reasons for using this technology in section 2. Section 3 describes the spectral mask implemented by various countries and section 4 describes the application of this technology. Section 5 discusses the types of ultra wideband communication systems and Section 6 concludes the paper.
