The method of the QCD sum rules was and still is one of the most productive tools in a wide range of problems associated with the hadronic phenomenology. Many heuristic ideas, computational devices, specific formulae which are useful to theorists working not only in hadronic physics, have been accumulated in this method. The study of QCD in the confinement regime poses some of the most difficult problems of fundamental physics at present. As a consequence of these difficulties, the frontier between effective and fundamental theories has been intensively investigated in the last few years, and progress has been achieved in several directions. Four sets of lectures were presented, providing a pedagogical and updated basis that gives support to research work in frontier problems.
