BEFORE YOU START These stories are not fair or, by any means, instructive. Keep it away from children. READ RESPONSIBLY I bet you spend a lot of time blathering about nonsense with your mates while having a pint. Wrong? Alright, so you might be the one sipping some bloody expensive glass of Italian wine, oh yeah, you're successful, you're a refined cat. Still, you probably like to take a piss on some new-age practice, you have your say on politics, social stuff and you can't help but telling no-good jokes every now and then. You hate me already, don't you? Brilliant. I'm sure we're going to be friends. Death Valley 101 is the book for you, trust me. -What is your piece of garbage about?- you might ask. IN SHORT Delusional Conversations about Life, Death and the World we Live in. A bit too short, isn't it? Either the author is a total genius or he's so incompetent that he didn't even manage to write a compelling, 3 lines long, worthy description, to sell his book. You know what? Whatever. These days, people don't trust the polished, carefully tailored fake descriptions. You certainly don't want to read lame stuff like THE RIGHT BOOK FOR A QUICKIE (laugh) or Ready to Unleash your Mean side? Bollocks. People want the real deal, ask president Trumpet. So, you want to hear what other people has to say about the book, don't you? Cool. Here is Praise for Death Valley 101 Matt Youth changed my life. His way of playing the guitar and singing is outstanding. He really got me into playing music. What? He also wrote a book? Seriously? JOHN - ex heroin addict You start reading and you're hooked, totally. I don't use the book pages to light up my fireplace anymore. At first, I used to even up the table with his Novel, but then again, I gave it a chance and that was it. There was no way back from it. Kill Your Friends is the best book ever! What do you mean I reviewed the wrong one? ALEX - doorman at the Ritz Addicting flow, exhilarating dialogue and characters. Absurd. Surreal. Unreal. Did I mention nail-biting? CHRISSY - expert When a friend of mine told me that Matt Youth published another novel, I thought FUCK YEAH. Totally worth it to spend cash for a book. Is the interview over? Can I get my money? STEVE - paid friend Youth is the real deal. I still can't believe he's not rich as fuck. I have been dealing drugs all my life, but I'm seriously considering becoming a writer now. Thank you, Matt. BILL - pusher Matt Youth is God. Did you like his novel? What? He's a writer? JOANIE - professional sex worker Buy it. Now. MARIO - mobster If you got to this point, I'm sure we are Best Friends Forever already. Thank you for your Precious Time. I am not Special and I'll most probably let you down. Sincerely Yours, Your Hero, Matt Youth.

The 25th-anniversary edition of "a novel that in the sweep and inevitability of its events...is a major contribution to Native American literature." (Wallace Stegner) In the Two Medicine Territory of Montana, the Lone Eaters, a small band of Blackfeet Indians, are living their immemorial life. The men hunt and mount the occasional horse-taking raid or war party against the enemy Crow. The women tan the hides, sew the beadwork, and raise the children. But the year is 1870, and the whites are moving into their land. Fools Crow, a young warrior and medicine man, has seen the future and knows that the newcomers will punish resistance with swift retribution. First published to broad acclaim in 1986, Fools Crow is James Welch's stunningly evocative portrait of his people's bygone way of life. A mob of peasants ransacks its way to Byzantium while a young bishop struggles to stop them, in this sweeping historical novel of the Crusades. Wild-eyed evangelist Kuku Peter has inflamed the pauper hordes of Europe, raising a violent peasant army of thirty thousand men, women, children, and elderly intent on recapturing Jerusalem from Islam. Untrained, armed with farm implements, and lacking provisions, this ragtag mob scorches a path across Europe and into Byzantium, leaving behind a horrid trail of intolerance and destruction . . . Young Bishop Tristan de Saint-Germain is sent by the pope to stop Kuku Peter’s march of madness, but trails it all the way to Constantinople. Arriving there, he unexpectedly discovers beautiful Mala the Romani awaiting him, still hoping to pull him from the grasp of Pope Urban and the Vatican. As their heartbreaking, obsessive past unearths itself while promising resurrection, the future of Christendom hangs in the balance as Kuku Peter’s renegade army tramps into the Sultanate of Rüm. Clinging to each other in defiant desperation, driven by hope and an illicit love forbidden by the Church, Tristan and Mala struggle to survive the raging currents of war, race, and faith as humanity approaches the greatest cultural war of all time: the Holy Crusades.

Holy Fools In Byzantium And Beyond written by Sergey A. Ivanov and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-04-06 with Religion categories.

There are saints in Orthodox Christian culture who overturn the conventional concept of sainthood. Their conduct may be unruly and salacious, they may blaspheme and even kill - yet, mysteriously, those around them treat them with even more reverence. Such saints are called 'holy fools'. In this pioneering study Sergey A. Ivanov examines the phenomenon of holy foolery from a cultural standpoint. He identifies its prerequisites and its development in religious thought, and traces the emergence of the first hagiographic texts describing these paradoxical saints. He describes the beginnings of holy foolery in Egyptian monasteries of the fifth century, followed by its high point in the cities of Byzantium, with an eventual decline in the twelfth to fourteenth centuries. He also compares the important Russian tradition of holy fools, which in some form has survived to this day.
