This thesis confronts the Modern Finance Theory with an alternative investment approach: the Value Investing Theory, in order to compare their performances. As studies comparing the performance of the two concepts regarding whole stock market indices and industrial companies are available and research regarding Swiss real estate investment companies is scarce, this thesis focuses on investing in Swiss real estate investment companies. Therefore, this thesis will analyze the companies of the SXI Real Estate Shares Index according to value investment criteria at the date of the launch of the index (01.12.2009) and then a value investing portfolio is created. The performance of this value investing portfolio is then compared with the SXI Real Estate Shares Index performance, both from 01.12.2009 until the termination date of this master thesis (17.01.2016). At the end, this thesis can state which investment theory was more successful regarding investments in Swiss real estate investment companies and provides the base for further implications concerning the two investing theories.

This study examines the performance of a Value Investing Strategy in the British, German, Swiss and US stock markets from 2006 to 2015. The investment strategy is based on Piotroski's (2000) F_SCORE, which focuses on whether an investor could improve his returns by using a simple accounting-based fundamental analysis strategy. Based on Warren Buffett's Value Investing approach, further variables are added to the F_SCORE leading to the MF_SCORE. The F_SCORE as well as the MF_SCORE are tested on the four mentioned national markets. Then the MF_SCORE is tested on an international level and compared with two international investing and active money managers with their domiciles in Germany or Switzerland. The results show that the F_SCORE manages to outperform the German and British markets, based on their monthly returns. However, the F_SCORE did not outperform the US nor Swiss market. The MF_SCORE outperformed all four markets and consequently managed to outperform the market on a global level. Comparing the MF_SCORE to the money managers, the outperformance was significant for the German money manager, as currency gains improved the abroad invested capital. The Swiss money manager could be outperformed based on the compound annual growth rate, however without the required level of significance. The study concludes, that a purely quantitative approach has the potential to outperform active money managers.

Affordable Housing As A Profitable Impact Investment written by Deepiga Vigneswaran and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-26 with Business & Economics categories.

The challenges of affordable housing are manifold. However this presents an opportunity to private investors, real estate companies, and developers. With the growing global trend for impact-based investments, many institutional investors have begun to consider the merits of this asset class. This book examines not only the profitability of these assets, but also whether these assets rely on government subsidy. It discusses why investors have become more interested in this product and which investment criteria influence the financial performance of these assets. The authors employed a mixed method approach to collect data at two tiers, first through surveys and afterwards through interviews of 8 firms (3 publicly listed companies, 3 private equity companies, 1 foundation, and 1 state bank) across Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Investment criteria are analyzed using inferential statistics, specifically the Hierarchical Algorithm Cluster Analysis. The financial characteristics of the companies are examined and compared using descriptive statistics and the qualitative interview output is explored using the thematic Latent Coding Analysis. Furthermore, the book explains how the bond-like nature of affordable housing is a profitable impact investment option, and how this strategy is particularly worthwhile for institutional investors. It also describes that profitability of affordable housing products is not dependent on subsidy. Still, affordable housing products supported by government incentives in the United Kingdom and United States are most attractive. The book illustrates six important investment strategies identified by veterans in this field to have an influence on the financial feasibility of affordable housing products.
