Fully updated throughout and with several new chapters, this second edition of Introduction to Inverse Problems in Imaging guides advanced undergraduate and graduate students in physics, computer science, mathematics and engineering through the principles of linear inverse problems, in addition to methods of their approximate solution and their practical applications in imaging. This second edition contains new chapters on edge-preserving and sparsity-enforcing regularization in addition to maximum likelihood methods and Bayesian regularization for Poisson data. The level of mathematical treatment is kept as low as possible to make the book suitable for a wide range of students from different backgrounds, with readers needing just a rudimentary understanding of analysis, geometry, linear algebra, probability theory, and Fourier analysis. The authors concentrate on presenting easily implementable and fast solution algorithms, and this second edition is accompanied by numerical examples throughout. It will provide readers with the appropriate background needed for a clear understanding of the essence of inverse problems (ill-posedness and its cure) and, consequently, for an intelligent assessment of the rapidly growing literature on these problems. Key features: Provides an accessible introduction to the topic while keeping mathematics to a minimum Interdisciplinary topic with growing relevance and wide-ranging applications Accompanied by numerical examples throughout

This volume provides academic discussion on the theory and practice of mathematical analysis of nonlinear and inverse problems in electromagnetics and their applications. From mathematical problem statement to numerical results, the featured articles provide a concise overview of comprehensive approaches to the solution of problems. Articles highlight the most recent research concerning reliable theoretical approaches and numerical techniques and cover a wide range of applications, including acoustics, electromagnetics, optics, medical imaging, and geophysics. The nonlinear and ill-posed nature of inverse problems and the challenges they present when developing new numerical methods are explained, and numerical verification of proposed new methods on simulated and experimental data is provided. Based on the special session of the same name at the 2017 Progress in Electromagnetics Research Symposium, this book offers a platform for interaction between theoretical and practical researchers and between senior and incoming members in the field.

Inverse Problems For Fractional Partial Differential Equations written by Barbara Kaltenbacher and has been published by American Mathematical Society this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-13 with Mathematics categories.

As the title of the book indicates, this is primarily a book on partial differential equations (PDEs) with two definite slants: toward inverse problems and to the inclusion of fractional derivatives. The standard paradigm, or direct problem, is to take a PDE, including all coefficients and initial/boundary conditions, and to determine the solution. The inverse problem reverses this approach asking what information about coefficients of the model can be obtained from partial information on the solution. Answering this question requires knowledge of the underlying physical model, including the exact dependence on material parameters. The last feature of the approach taken by the authors is the inclusion of fractional derivatives. This is driven by direct physical applications: a fractional derivative model often allows greater adherence to physical observations than the traditional integer order case. The book also has an extensive historical section and the material that can be called "fractional calculus" and ordinary differential equations with fractional derivatives. This part is accessible to advanced undergraduates with basic knowledge on real and complex analysis. At the other end of the spectrum, lie nonlinear fractional PDEs that require a standard graduate level course on PDEs.

Due to parallel advances in signal processing and computer hardware in the last 15 years, quantitative ultrasound techniques have reached maturity, allowing for the construction of quantitative maps or images of soft tissues. This book will focus on 5 modern research topics related to quantitative ultrasound of soft tissues: - Spectral-based methods for tissue characterization, tissue typing, cancer detection, etc.; - Envelope statistics analysis as a means of quantifying and imaging tissue properties; - Ultrasound elastography for quantifying elastic properties of tissues (several clinical ultrasound scanners now display elastography images); - Scanning acoustic microscopy for forming images of mechanical properties of soft tissues with micron resolution (desktop size scanners are now available); and - Ultrasound computer tomography for breast cancer imaging (new ultrasound tomography systems have been developed and are currently under evaluation clinically).

New Directions In Linear Acoustics And Vibration written by Matthew Wright and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-07-26 with Science categories.

Linear acoustics was thought to be fully encapsulated in physics texts of the 1950s, but this view has been changed by developments in physics during the last four decades. There is a significant new amount of theory that can be used to address problems in linear acoustics and vibration, but only a small amount of reported work does so. This book is an attempt to bridge the gap between theoreticians and practitioners, as well as the gap between quantum and acoustic. Tutorial chapters provide introductions to each of the major aspects of the physical theory and are written using the appropriate terminology of the acoustical community. The book will act as a quick-start guide to the new methods while providing a wide-ranging introduction to the physical concepts.

Geophysical Data Analysis and Inverse Theory with MATLAB or Python, Fifth Edition is a revised and expanded introduction to inverse theory and tomography as it is practiced by geophysicists. The book demonstrates the methods needed to analyze a broad spectrum of geophysical datasets, with special attention given to those methods that generate images of the earth. Data analysis can be a mathematically complex activity, but the treatment in this volume is carefully designed to emphasize those mathematical techniques that readers will find the most familiar and to systematically introduce less-familiar ones. A series of "crib sheets" offer step-by-step summaries of methods presented.Utilizing problems and case studies, along with MATLAB and Python computer code and summaries of methods, the book provides professional geophysicists, students, data scientists and engineers in geophysics with the tools necessary to understand and apply mathematical techniques and inverse theory. - Includes material on probability, including Bayesian influence, probability density function, and metropolis algorithm - Offers detailed discussions of the application of inverse theory to seismological, gravitational, and tectonic studies - Provides numerous examples, color figures, and end-of-chapter problems to help readers explore and further understand the presented ideas - Includes both MATLAB and Python examples and problem sets

"The treatment of inverse theory in this book is divided into four parts. Chapters 1 and 2 provide a general background, explaining what inverse problems are and what constitutes their solution as well as reviewing some of the basic concepts from linear algebra and probability theory that will be applied throughout the text. Chapters 3-7 discuss the solution of the canonical inverse problem: the linear problem with Gaussian statistics. This is the best understood of all inverse problems; and it is here that the fundamental notions of uncertainty, uniqueness, and resolution can be most clearly developed. Chapters 8-11 extend the discussion to problems that are non-Gaussian, nonlinear and continuous. Chapters 12-13 provide examples of the use of inverse theory and a discussion of the steps that must be taken to solve inverse problems on a computer"--
