Die diatopische Variation in den deutschen Rechtssprachen ist bisher wenig systematisch behandelt worden. Der vorliegende Band leistet einen Beitrag zur Schließung dieser Lücke, indem das Thema aus linguistisch-terminologischer Sicht thematisiert wird. Dabei finden die Rechtssprachen Deutschlands, Österreichs, der Schweiz, Südtirols, Ostbelgiens sowie die deutsche Rechtssprache der Europäischen Union Berücksichtigung; hinzu kommen regionale Varianten, die in geringerem Umfang ebenfalls in juristischen Dokumenten kodifiziert sind. This collection presents novel insights into the micro- and macro-variation of causal clauses from a cross-linguistic perspective. It contains a general introduction to the topic setting the scene and nine chapters based on data from Dutch, German, English, Icelandic, Chinese, and Japanese. Topics discussed in the individual chapters involve, inter alia, external, internal and linear syntax of adverbial clauses expressing a causal relation, their semantic interpretation and information-structural properties, verb position, volitionality, and the development of particular causal conjunctions. The findings gained here are of synchronic and diachronic nature and offer new theoretical perspectives on how causal dependency relationships are expressed by inherent causal morpho-syntactic patterns. They also provide a deeper comprehension of how sentential modifiers work, emerge, and develop in general. This book presents the current state of the art regarding the application of logical tools to the problems of theory and practice of lawmaking. This volume offers several empirical, methodological, and theoretical approaches to the study of observable variation within individuals on various linguistic levels. Is there observable intra-individual variation that cannot be explained by linguistic and extra-linguistic factors? Can group-level results be generalised to individual language usage and vice versa?
