“The involvement of semi-immortal beings makes for an easy comparison to N.K. Jemisin’s The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms, and it’s justified. Written on a grand scale and set in an ancient world of humans, immortals, and other magical beings, this debut is an engaging and quick-moving story of love, revenge, and justice. Resembling the work of Joe Abercrombie and Michael Sullivan, it will be popular with a wide range of fantasy fans.” -- Library Journal The Empire is Shrouded, not only by the barrier that covers the land, but by the lies and oppression of the mierothi regime. Magic is the privilege of the elite, and the people of this shadowed country have forgotten what it means to hope under their rule. But there are some who would resist, with plans put into motion millennia before. For returned to the Empire is a valynkar, servant of the god of light, and with him comes the strength and cunning that could tip the scales to end the Emperor’s reign. He has gathered a group of heroes ready to ignite the flame of rebellion and fight against the dark power that has ruled for nearly two thousand years. A power that has champions of its own. Nathan Garrison’s Veiled Empire throws a mythical land into chaos, with races long thought forgotten, and magics only-just discovered. Steel and sorcery clash as brave souls vie for freedom and control in this astonishing debut novel.

It examines the historical development of colonial systems and shows their enormous role in shaping the modern world order. It is meant to be thematic and suggestive, offering arguments and information to serve as a starting point for discussion and exploration.

With comparisons to N.K. Jemison, Michael J. Sullivan, and Joe Abercrombie, readers have fallen in love with The Veiled Empire, the first book in The Sundered Worlds trilogy. Now, Nathan Garrison takes the story to the next level Shadow of the Void. The Veil has fallen . . . and the gods have been woken. For many, a new dawn has risen, as freedom from the tyrannical Emperor Rekaj has created a land replete with opportunities. But for those who had lived outside the Veil for generations, the sudden appearance of a new nation is not cause for celebration--it is the cause for war. Yet, even as the political machinations of men and mierothi and valynkar start to manifest on a global scale, there are a few playing their own games. Whether it's the powerful combination of Vashodia and Jasside trying to carve out a country for those freed from the Veil, or the warrior Mevon and assassin Draevenus forming an unlikely alliance in search of the dark god Ruul, the world is in chaos...which might be exactly what some are counting on. Continuing where Veiled Empire left off, Shadow of the Void shows us how individuals can shape their own destinies, but not necessarily control them.

"The Veiled Assassin" is the first in Q. V. Hunter's ground-breaking series, 'The Embers of Empire,' introducing Roman fiction fans to a little-used setting when the Republic and Imperium periods had become fading memories. The Dominate period ruled by Emperors Constans, Constantius II, Julian the Apostate, and the Valentinian brothers was a world of usurping barbarian generals, competing Christian factions, intrigant eunuchs, overstretched borders, and the rise of the rival 'New Roma' or Constantinople in the East.In this first adventure, "The Veiled Assassin" pits young Marcus Gregorianus Numidianus, half-African slave-turned-spy, against religious suicide martyrs destroying the stability of Roman African colonial exports vital to a hungry empire. Even if Marcus' mission to find the powerful mastermind behind the mutilating ambushes is a success, will his army master honor an obligation to free the stubborn young hero?Marcus will survive to face Gallo-Roman army rebels, corrupt imperial eunuchs ruling the East, and a pair of Christian emperors struggling to maintain order in the face of Goths, Alemanni, Saxons, Berbers, Persians, and Franks--all amidst embers of a world blindly smoldering toward its extinction.Migrant surges, religious suicide martyrs, imperialist commodity extraction, spiritual faddism, gender battles, child sex abuse, people-trafficking--even a forerunner of Brexit--the men and women of the 4th century faced all of it already, and they're all in "The Embers of Empire" series, delighting fans of Bernard Cornwell, Steven Saylor, and Robert Harris.

The Sultan found her irresistible. The Chief Eunuch wanted to use her to his own ends. Jealous rivals plotted her demise. Can an innocent former convent girl survive in such a strange and dangerous world? In a tale deeply enmeshed in the histories of two of the world’s greatest empires, The French Sultana continues the true story of Aimée Dubucq de Rivery and her cousin Rose who were both destined to be queens...one beside the Emperor Napoleon and the other from behind the thrones of three consecutive sultans of the Ottoman Empire. The saga spans two continents from the decadent aristocratic courts of pre-revolutionary France, to the unimaginable opulence and deadly intrigues inside forbidden Turkish harem walls. Publisher's Note: This is an extraordinarily well-researched novel that is true to the period. As such, there is explicit sexual and violent content that, while typical to the era, is most appropriate for adult readers. The Veil and the Crown, in series order: The Stolen Girl The French Sultana “I felt as if the book had been written originally in French during the 18th century...as if the author had remembered and translated it into English, keeping the exact tone of the original account, with detailed description of the places, manners, clothing, tastes and smells transporting me into the actual moment and location of each scene, making me feel like I was immersed in a film instead of a book.” Fredric Lehrman, author of The Sacred Landscape

Anti Veiling Campaigns In Turkey written by Sevgi Adak and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-24 with History categories.

The veiling and unveiling of women have been controversial issues in Turkey since the late-Ottoman period. It was with the advent of local campaigns against certain veils in the 1930s, however, that women's dress turned into an issue of national mobilisation in which gender norms would be redefined. In this comprehensive analysis of the anti-veiling campaigns in interwar Turkey, Sevgi Adak casts light onto the historical context within which the meanings of veiling and unveiling in Turkey were formed. By shifting the focus from the high politics of the elite to the implementation of state policies, the book situates the anti-veiling campaigns as a space where the Kemalist reforms were negotiated, compromised and resisted by societal actors. Using previously unpublished archival material, Adak reveals the intricacies of the Kemalist modernisation process and provides a nuanced reading of the gender order established in the early republic by looking at the various ways women responded to the anti-veiling campaigns. A major contribution to the literature on the social history of modern Turkey, the book provides a complex analysis of these campaigns which goes beyond a simple binary between liberation and oppression.
