Teattereissa niitä kuitenkin esitettiin paljon, ja uusia näytelmiä syntyi tiuhaan, joskus kolmekin vuodessa. Ensimmäinen Shakespearen kirjoittamaksi tiedetty näytelmä on vuonna1592 esitetty Henrik VI. Shakespeare kuului myös teatteriseurueisiin ja oli yksi Globe-teatterin omistajista. Todennäköisesti viimeinen näytelmä on 1611 ensiesityksensä saanut Myrsky, mutta senkin jälkeen hän kirjoitti muutamia näytelmiä yhteistyössä toisten näytelmäkirjailijoiden kanssa. 1610-luvulla hän jätti Lontoon ja teatterin ja vetäytyi Stratfordiin, missä hän kuoli 52-vuotiaana 23.4.1616.
