Jahrhunderts.

The Patient Ferment Of The Early Church written by Alan Kreider and has been published by Baker Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-29 with Religion categories.

How and why did the early church grow in the first four hundred years despite disincentives, harassment, and occasional persecution? In this unique historical study, veteran scholar Alan Kreider delivers the fruit of a lifetime of study as he tells the amazing story of the spread of Christianity in the Roman Empire. Challenging traditional understandings, Kreider contends the church grew because the virtue of patience was of central importance in the life and witness of the early Christians. They wrote about patience, not evangelism, and reflected on prayer, catechesis, and worship, yet the church grew--not by specific strategies but by patient ferment.

The Misunderstanding Of The Church written by Emil Brunner and has been published by James Clarke & Co. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Religion categories.

Brunner sees St Paul's Epistle to the Romans as 'the chapter of destiny of the Christian Church'. Here, in Luther's words, is the 'purest gospel' upon which the very existence of the Christian faith depends and from which it draws its life. Concentrated, decisive and instructive, nothing within the New Testament is more closely argued both theological and personal. Out of his years of scholarly wisdom Brunner meditates on the great Question: What is wrong with the Churches? Brunner finds an answer in thecontrast between the virile Spirit-filled fellowship of the New Testament and the institutions which are now called 'churches'. He writes in his preface: 'The title of the book, The Misunderstanding of the Church, is equivocal. Is it a question of a misunderstanding of which the Church is guilty, or of a misunderstanding of which it is the victim? Or is it that the Church itself, as such, is perhaps the product of a misunderstanding? The author is not responsible for this ambiguity; it is intrinsic in the theme itself.

Homo Sociologicus written by Ralf Dahrendorf and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-09 with Social Science categories.

First published in English as part of the Essays in the Theory of Society, this volume reissues the stand-alone Homo Sociologicus for which the author wrote a new introduction when it was originally published in 1973. The controversial book deals with the history, significance and limits of the category of social role and discusses the dilemma posed by homo sociologicus. The author shows that for society and sociology, socialization invariably means depersonalization, the yielding up of man’s absolute individuality and liberty to the constraint and generality of social roles. This volume includes the essay, Sociology and Human Nature, written as a postscript to Homo Sociologicus.

School Acts And The Rise Of Mass Schooling written by Johannes Westberg and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-10 with Education categories.

This book examines school acts in the long nineteenth century, traditionally considered as milestones or landmarks in the process of achieving universal education. Guided by a strong interest in social, cultural, and economic history, the case studies featured in the book rethink the actual value, the impact, and the ostensible purpose of school acts. The thirteen national case studies focus on the manner in which school acts were embedded in their particular historical contexts, offering a comprehensive and multidisciplinary overview of school acts and the role they played in the rise of mass schooling. Drawing together research from countries across the West, the editors and contributors analyse why these acts were passed, as well as their content and impact. This seminal collection will appeal to students and scholars of school acts and the history of mass schooling. Over the past twenty years, the sociology of childhood has developed fast. In the UK and Europe, many studies now focus on the child as social agent, and the notion of the child as social construction - varying across times and places - has gained in popularity. However, in the UK at least, the development of theory has lagged behind. Childhood in Generational Perspective moves forward, intensively considering the value of generation in helping us rethink childhood. Relations between children and adults (parents, teachers and others) are between people belonging to different cohorts, having differing cultural experiences and identities. But these relations are also influenced more generally by the generational order of society. The authors consider these ideas and how they intersect. This important book contains new perspectives on theoretical issues from distinguished European scholars, providing challenging reading for teachers and students of the sociology of childhood.
