Nel secondo volume sono raccolti una ventina di Dossier di ricerca applicata al caso di studio pescarese inerenti tematiche scientifiche multidisciplinari. Una lettura d’insieme del lavoro fa emergere un quadro interessante sullo stato di avanzamento disciplinare intorno al tema della Rigenerazione Urbana, intesa non solo come interventi edilizi a consumo di suolo zero, ma anche come insieme sistematico di azioni con valenze economiche, ma anche sociali, culturali, etiche, capaci addirittura di incidere sui comportamenti dei cittadini stimolandone nuove sensibilità. This book illustrates the scientific results of the studies and researches on strategic transformation areas in the city of Pescara. The studies were performed as part of the important Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Department of Architecture of the Università G. d’Annunzio and the Pescara Municipality. The first volume focuses on the ‘Vision’, i.e., the city of the future concept involving the establishment of strategic medium-to-long term objectives. The first volume also provides concise information about the projects for the ten strategic urban areas drafted during the Summer School 2015; these are the ten most important urban opportunities Pescara believes will make the city territorially competitive in the years to come. The second book illustrates the roughly twenty research Dossiers focusing on the multidisciplinary scientific topics applied to the Pescara case studies. A comprehensive interpretation of the studies and researches paints an interesting picture of disciplinary progress on the topic of Urban Revitalisation, considered not only as zero land consumption construction, but also as an orderly ensemble of economic, social, cultural and ethical actions capable of influencing the behaviour of the city’s inhabitants and stimulating new sensibilities. The management of cultural heritage and public real-estate assets is one of the most crucial challenges concerning the sustainable use of these resources, involving dynamic methods to stimulate preservation, development, renewal, and transmission to future generations of these essential assets. The contributions presented in this book provide a rich and varied panorama of research experiences and innovative tools, capable of promoting the re-use of cultural heritage in European cities and cultural landscapes, using a circular economy logic as a model of sustainable development. From this point of view, cultural capital becomes the driver of a regeneration process on the local, urban, and metropolitan scales, in which the transversal interconnections between the production cycles of the adaptive re-use of the available heritage, both in the adaptation and in the management phase, configure a circular process of multidimensional production of value. Therefore, future territorial redevelopment projects can base their idea strength on an open system of appropriately selected social attractors, whose enhancement and use have the objective of triggering widespread regeneration effects on the whole territory of influence, receiving inducement and resources to progress.

[Italiano]: Uno dei principali requisiti per il buon funzionamento delle città, e per la loro sostenibilità, è che esse siano dotate di strade e spazi pubblici sicuri. Tale circostanza è ribadita dagli obiettivi di sviluppo sostenibile dell’Agenda 2030, in particolare dal Goal 11 con il quale si promuove la creazione di città sicure, oltre che inclusive, resilienti e sostenibili. La sicurezza in città è ostacolata quotidianamente dal verificarsi di reati predatori o episodi di inciviltà che condizionano la percezione di insicurezza innalzando la paura. La crescente domanda di sicurezza avanzata dai cittadini impone un cambio di prospettiva rispetto agli approcci sino ad ora adottati per far fronte a tale problematica. L’obiettivo di rendere la città più sicura non può essere perseguito esclusivamente con azioni di controllo o di tipo repressivo o con sporadici e generalizzati interventi di matrice sociale. È necessario affrontare la problematica in una prospettiva multidisciplinare e multilivello, seguendo un approccio integrato che inglobi in sé considerazioni, competenze, strategie ed azioni di natura urbanistica, architettonica, sociologica, criminologica, giuridica e politica. Alla luce di quanto osservato, la raccolta si configura come occasione per riflettere, in maniera più attenta, su una tematica di particolare complessità, integrando saperi e punti di vista differenti che possano guidare l’urbanistica verso la predisposizione di azioni specifiche, eventualmente da poter contemplare nel Piano Urbanistico Comunale, per l’adeguamento, nel tempo, degli spazi urbani a criteri di sicurezza./[English]: One of the main requirements for well-functioning cities, and for their sustainability is that they have secure streets and public spaces. This circumstance is reaffirmed by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), in particular SDG 11 by which the creation of secure, as well as inclusive, resilient and sustainable cities is promoted. Security in the city is hindered everyday by the occurrence of predatory crimes or incivility episodes that affect the perception of insecurity raising fear. The growing demand for security that citizens ask for requires a new perspective with respect to the approaches that have been adopted so far to deal with this problem. The objective of making the city safer cannot be pursued exclusively through control or repressive actions or with occasional and generalised social interventions. It is necessary to address the issue in a multidisciplinary and multi-level perspective, following an integrated approach that incorporates considerations, abilities, strategies and actions of an urban planning, architectural, social, criminological, legal and political nature. This collection is an opportunity to reflect, in a more careful way, on a particularly complex issue, integrating different knowledge and points of view that can guide Urban Planning towards the preparation of specific actions, possibly to be included in the Municipal Urban Plan, for the adaptation, over time, of urban spaces to security criteria.
