This book argues that issues of sexual diversity are inextricably interwoven into the basic concerns of pre-service teacher education. How do we make our students aware of assumptions regarding masculinity, femininity, and sexuality that arise from what is presented, represented, or omitted from curricula and classroom practice? What do we say about homophobia and heterosexism as we anticipate the administrative hierarchies, school cultures, parent and community politics they will encounter as teachers? What special challenges might face a teacher (straight or gay) who discusses sexual orientation in a high school classroom, or responds to a homophobic remark in the hallway or the cafeteria? How should we prepare a teacher for a parent conference with two moms or two dads? The essays in this volume range from an analysis of gay stereotypes in teacher education textbooks, to a discussion of queer multiculturalism, to personal accounts by lesbian and gay teacher educators and heterosexual allies who are challenging homophobia and heterosexism in their own classrooms and programs. All agree that education for sexual diversity is as important as education about all other forms of difference, and that future teachers need to know how to create safe spaces for lesbian and gay students, along with the children of gay families who are increasingly a part of the classroom landscape.

This true crime biography reveals the full story of a remorseless serial killer once proclaimed the most dangerous man in Britain—and where he is now. For a few days in the winter of 1975, it looked as though police had unmasked a serial killer whose reign of terror was unprecedented in British crime history. Convicted of three killings, suspected of another eight, Patrick Mackay was dubbed the Monster of Belgravia, the Devil’s Disciple, and simply The Psychopath. The Nazi-obsessed alcoholic had stalked the upmarket streets of West London hunting for victims, and gruesomely murdered a priest he had once befriended in Kent. Yet many of his suspected murders remain unsolved to this day. Not long after his conviction, the public outrage at his crimes faded. Now, after more than forty years behind bars, Mackay has been allowed to change his name and transfer to an open prison—steps that put him closer to freedom. For the first time, Britain’s Forgotten Serial Killer reveals the full, untold story of Patrick Mackay and the many still-unsolved murders linked to his case.Serial killer Patrick Mackay was dubbed the most dangerous man in Britain when he appeared in court in 1975 charged with three killings, including the axe murder of a priest. Cytochrome Systems written by S. Papa and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-06 with Computers categories.

This volume is based on the proceedings of an International Symposium on "Cytochrome Systems: Molecular Biology and Bioenergetics" that was held at Selva di Fasano near Bari, Italy, between April 7 and 11,1987. It contains papers covering the subjects discussed at the Symposium, contributed both by participants of the meeting and by some invited speakers who were not able to attend. The aim of the Symposium was to bring together experts in various rese arch strategies currently being applied to the study of cytochrome systems, including molecular genetics, protein chemistry, enzymology of electron transfer and protonmotive activity in energy-transducing biological mem branes. Because of the high degree of complexity of cytochrome systems and the increasing sophistication in recent years of the different experimen tal approaches, there has been a growing specialization - sometimes even a tendency to "over-specialization" - among scientists working in this field. This in itself seemed to justify a meeting where representatives of various disciplines could exchange their results and discuss their conclusions. In addition, and perhaps even more importantly, it was felt that meetings of this kind provide an opportunity for a "cross-fertilization" of approaches and ideas among representatives of various fields of science. The present meeting proved to be an ample illustration of the success of such an inter action.

Vic and Sade, an often absurd situation comedy written by the prolific Paul Rhymer, aired on America's radios from 1932 to 1944 (with short-lived revivals afterward). The title characters, known as "radio's home folks," were a married couple exploring the comedic side of ordinary life along with their adopted son and an eccentric uncle. This book examines the program's depiction of many aspects of American culture--leisure activities, community groups, education, films--in light of the critiques put forward by the era's critics such as William Orton. Vic and Sade offered its own subtle cultural critique that reflected how ordinary people experienced mass culture of the time.
