Socially Responsive Organizations The Challenge Of Poverty written by Milenko Gudi? and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-09-08 with Business & Economics categories.

This book provides a combination of case studies and current action research describing how businesses and civil society organizations are working to alleviate poverty in local and global communities. It intends to provide conceptual and research rationales for why management education and management institutions must address the issue of poverty. The book responds to one of the major findings from the research of the PRME Working Group on Poverty that the topic of poverty still lacks a strong business case for management educators and program/institutional administrators. The distinctive features of this book are that it: (1) includes examples of small and medium-sized (SME) businesses; (2) deals with the issue of poverty as a human rights violation; (3) explores the issue of absolute versus relative poverty; (4) deals with leadership challenges in organizations committed to poverty alleviation; and (5) discusses the issues in terms of management education’s responsibility for setting new management, research institutional and intellectual agendas. The first of two books to be produced by the PRME Working Group on Poverty, Socially Responsive Organizations and The Challenge of Poverty aims to provide both researchers and practitioners with the most wide-ranging coverage yet published on how business can be a positive force in alleviating poverty and how management education needs to adapt to this increasingly crucial prerogative.

This book questions the assumption that Amazonia's future rests exclusively in sustainability and environmental conservation. It is the first book to argue for an Amazonia strategy that emphasises societal dynamics in deforestation and sustainable development policy. Demystifying utopian views of the rainforest as a troubled paradise, the book explores potential processes by which ordinary settlers can themselves construct a sustainable society.

* Winner of the 2004 Harry Chapin Media Judges Award from World Hunger Year * A vivid, highly readable book by a resident of Brazil who set off by bus and motorbike to unearth the realities of this hidden trade and expose them to the world The illegal trade in people is surpassed in scale only by that in drugs and arms. In huge ranches deep in the Amazon, migrant workers are enmeshed in a web of debt, deceit, and cruelty -- trapped in the illegal trade in humans. Trapped documents the lives of these workers, allowing them to tell their own stories. Le Breton also talks with those who benefit from this injustice, as well as those fighting against it, and offers suggestions on how it can be consigned to history.

Challenging Social Inequality written by Miguel Carter and has been published by Duke University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-23 with History categories.

In Challenging Social Inequality, an international and interdisciplinary group of scholars and development workers explores the causes, consequences, and contemporary reactions to Brazil's sharply unequal agrarian structure. They focus on the Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST)—Latin America's largest and most prominent social movement—and its ongoing efforts to confront historic patterns of inequality in the Brazilian countryside. Several essays provide essential historical background for understanding the MST. They examine Brazil's agrarian structure, state policies, and the formation of rural civil-society organizations. Other essays build on a frequently made distinction between the struggle for land and the struggle on the land. The first refers to the mobilization undertaken by landless peasants to demand government land redistribution. The struggle on the land takes place after the establishment of an official agricultural settlement. The main efforts during this phase are geared toward developing productive and meaningful rural communities. The last essays in the collection are wide-ranging analyses of the MST, which delve into the movement's relations with recent governments and its impact on other Brazilian social movements. In the conclusion, Miguel Carter appraises the future of agrarian reform in Brazil. Contributors. José Batista Gonçalves Afonso, Sonia Maria P..P.
